I own an LGS and use discord to connect with customers. I have the server broken down into sections, like board games, card games, miniature games, etc so that someone there only for board games does not get all of the chatter of mini gaming. When you first join you only see the announcement channel, the welcome channel, and the channel selection channel. When you arrive the welcome bot prompts you to visit the channel selection channel and pick your interests.

I have a large number of users who have never selected interests. I would like to either tag them all so that I can reminder them to update preferences, or maybe have everyone that joins automatically get a role that is removed when they receive any other role making tagging easier.

If anyone has any insight on easily doing one or the other, or a better way to get people to pick their roles I would love to hear it.

A while ago I've noticed Discord using 8-10% of my CPU every time I open Task Manager. This doesn't really sound weird... Until you realize this is when my Discord client is NOT running (AKA after I fully exit out of it so it's not even present in the tray area on the right side of the taskbar). From what I can tell, it's using about 400MB of memory, no disk or network and about 8% of CPU (I have 6 cores/12 threads and that 8-10% seems to be distributed among all of them). It's possible it uses disk and network in short bursts after a long period of inactivity, but I havent spotted it doing that so far). If I were to kill Discord.exe in the task manager - it would go away and not come back until I restarted my computer. At first, I didn't think much of it - I thought maybe it's doing some background update or something, but it is constant, it doesn't go away unless I kill it. When I run Discord - another Discord entry appears in the task manager - the suspicious one seems unaffected. Both entries take me to the same file when I click "Open file location". The file seems normal and signed by Discord. What is going on here? Do you guys also have this going on or is it just me? I'm getting some really sus vibes ngl. I suspect a discord bug/unoptimized code, 3rd party malware or Discord itself secretly doing some malicious thing.

UPDATE: Multiple clean reinstalls haven't helped.

They supposedly can be disabled in settings- but we all know that won't last. They're going full Microsoft Skype mode and it's only a matter of time.

Forced arbitration means any legal disputes you may have with Discord must be resolved through a single third party mediator, who 99% of the time is chosen by, and will rule in favor of, the corporation/Discord. This effectively removes all your legal rights as a consumer, because arbitration decisions are legally binding and non-appealable.

The new ToS goes into effect April 15th, 2024.

YOU CAN OPT OUT OF ARBITRATION. You must email [email protected] BEFORE MAY 15TH (30 days after ToS effective date) with your username stating that you wish to opt out of the arbitration clause. Once May 15th passes you are bound to arbitration with Discord forever.

Opt-out before it's too late.

Briahna Joy Gray and Robby Soave discuss Jack Teixeira's, the 22-year-old Massachusetts Air National Guardsman, plea agreement for leaking intelligence information on Discord.

Short Summary

  1. Recent incidents involving military personnel leaking classified information are discussed in the video transcript.
  2. Retired Army Lieutenant Colonel David Franklin Slater allegedly shared classified intelligence about the war in Ukraine with a woman through a dating site.
  3. Slater is facing charges for unauthorized disclosure of National Defense information and conspiracy to disclose National Defense information.
  4. Former Air Guard Jack Tesera pleaded guilty to leaking documents from the Pentagon and received a sentence of up to 16 years in prison.
  5. Tesera will also be required to turn over classified documents, pay a fine, and have supervised release.
  6. The discussion raises questions about whether Tesera could be considered a whistleblower for revealing information about American involvement in Ukraine.
  7. The video also touches on the perception of Tesera leaking information to friends on Discord rather than to the press for public interest.
  8. The complexity of these cases and the consequences faced by individuals leaking classified information are highlighted in the discussion.
  9. The speaker discusses two separate stories involving individuals who compromised classified information.
  10. The vulnerability of individuals to deception and manipulation is reflected upon, emphasizing the importance of being cautious and skeptical of suspicious communications.

Recently read this on a Steam game's reviews section ...

User Comment...

The game's Discord REQUIRES your personal phone number to get access at all. This is a very intrusive, and 100% unnecessary requirement, in order to just be able to interact with others about the game, it's content, player experiences, and many other things. It's also intrusive in regards to being able to contribute any input to help other players in any way at all.

Dev Response...

It's Discord that's asking you for verification of the account. We're not getting your phone number. This is standard practice on bigger servers that allows for a better user experience, filtering bots/ spam accounts, trolls, etc.

Could companies please STOP lying about it being Discord's choice, its not, is the Discord server's choice to ask for it.

Its a "Verification Levels" setting that the server op sets, and they have multiple options that they can choose from, its not an on/off switch. They can dial it back one notch and still have spam/bot protections.

The only difference between "High" and "Highest" verification levels is the addition of asking for a phone number, all other features of "High" is in "Highest", and "Highest" has no other extra features besides asking for the phone number.

Makes it really hard to have an pseudonym account on the Internet, for gaming purposes, and then be asked for your real phone number. I don't need to be tracked 24/7.

Isn't your active developer badge supposed to be removed if your bot hasn't been used in 60 days? I have an account with an active developer badge and it has never been removed. The bot used to claim the badge hasn't be used for months, but I have never gotten a warning about the badge expiring on that account. I have another account with the badge and every 60 days I get a warning, so I know this isn't normal. Could my account be bugged or could it have something to do with the policy change for the badge?

I uploaded a test exe in a private Discord server.. and a little while later Discord edited my message and deleted my exe. Understandable why, but still unexpected!

Hey @discordapp How about stop making the stupid fucking theme thing appear EVERY fucking time I go to a new server? It's obnoxious.

Me: "do not allow Discord to run in fullscreen mode"
@discordapp : "i am going to disregard this Android injunction"

Discord is not meant to be a private messenger. And you really shouldn't use it as one!

I wish @discordapp offered a "mute" in addition to a full block for users.
And that other users wouldn't be able to tell whether they've been muted.

Trying to understand how to navigate the iOS version of the #Discord app using Voiceover. Can anyone tell me how to select a channel? I see the current channel shown as a heading, but I can't seem to bring up a channel list. #a11y @discordapp

I'm finding Clyde to be especially stupid recently, and it's to the point where I'm doubting it's even running on ChatGPT anymore? At the very least its EXTREMELY different to how it was when I first tried Clyde. I haven't seen anyone else talking about this. Does anyone know more?

For those interested in trying to keep track of the discord username rollout this is the best tool I have seen for it.
