No i didn't mean it like that, i'm sorry. It's more of a reaction to the general vibe i get off lemmy while im in a period of trying to debug by brain. I probably misread what you actually meant. Most of lemmy is just frustrated and sad about things we have little control over. It's more the general thread reminding me of healthy ways of thinking vs the rest of lemmy. your comment just happened to be where i was thinking out loud. sorry ><

Yes yes, i oversimplfied it for the sake of explaining to someone who doesnt know linux. I'm talking about having to figure out specific parameters that may or may not work on some hardware but not on others. I had this issue with 2 of 4 games i tried in 2021. Eventually i did get both games to work but with weird glitches.

I dont think debian is the issue, but nvidia and it's wonky ass linux drivers. my 12 button mouse is also useless in linux. maybe it's better by now. last time i tried i had issues with wayland. though i heard big update for fedora was coming for wayland in may (?) 2024, so i might try again then.

The biggest thing that always gets in my way is no Visual Studio IDE support. yes, theres other IDEs, i've tried them all with various levels of wonk to the point i end up jus not being able productive with c# or be even less productive in other languages.

Same with photoshop or video editing sofware. Sure, you got gimp and kedit, but theyre just not as good and have weird issues.

Okay, which brings me back to, why push those people further away, so they only strengthen that worldview rather than trying to communicate with them and show them who we really are? It's not like you don't want the undesirables to go away somehow as well, right?

So you're saying their methods are more aggressive. You're not describing your average trump supporter, right? You're describing the extreme, just like they describe the extremists of the left in their propaganda. I'm not suggesting we waste time on extremists. I'm suggesting there is hope for the rest of them.

And why do they think like that? The only thing they see in their bubble is the most extreme and annoying propagandized depiction of us. And the solution somehow is to push them even further away? There's plenty of people out there who held extreme beliefs and have been humbled through mere interaction with someone of the opposing group.

What we're doing here is the same as what they do. Portray them all in the same horrible light. Someome who thinks "as long as they keep it in the bedroom" 10 years ago, will now be much more likely to be more extreme because of echo chambers.

Someone who think "as long as they dont force their religious values on us" is now much more likely to think they all want to eradicate us, because of echo chambers.

It wasn't even in a blahaj sub. But they did nuke the account. I'm not about to censor myself regardless though, if I can't have the less restrictive reddit I was promised on lemmy, i might as well be back on reddit. I refuse to contribute to more echo chambers. If something is a bad take, i will point it out. if someone points out my reasoning is faulty, i learned something. If we can't have that, we're just sitting behind our computers, patting ourselves on the back about how right we are about everything.

That's not gonna end well without a viable and executable alternative. Usually you'll end up with a lot of chaos, some party promising to ease it, followed by that party turning out to be a dictatorship.
Frankly, it's amazing we have something close to a democracy at all.

And a right wing person can take that sentence and turn it around. They have a whole lore to back up the claim too.
When you dig deep enough into the claims, it becomes clear which is fact. Most people don't have the time to do that so they stick to what's in their beliefsystem or fits within it.
They think people who believe in climate change are brainwashed zombies, in an ironic backward twist. This also seems to be the case with many things and it's probably intentionally done by the propagandists.

How long do you figure until smalltalk about the weather is an attack on someone's political beliefsystem?

True, I don't know any trans people directly, but i certainly wonder if getting the transition is good for them. If i can't see people discuss both points of view because it's "transphobic", i'm forced to draw my own conclusions.

Just to be 100% clear, I am gay and have had my fair share of biggotry, so i know what it's like. But the fact that i need this disclaimer is concerning to me. I believe that overprotective censorship is responsible for a lot problems we have in 2023. People cannot learn if they cannot ask questions without being told they are evil.
