For documents I started learning Typst and LaTeX a while ago and now I greatly prefer either of them over LibreOffice. Being able to write comments that don't render in the PDF is also very useful (i.e. when I do my homework in LaTeX/Typst I'll put class notes there as well)

This happened to a bunch of people yesterday, I ended up being one of them and my feed turned into absolute insanity, now it's back to shitposts

People who deliberately ignore struggles that others outside their immediate community experience, especially ones that they cause themselves, don't deserve to be listened to

Call them "communities", not "instances", that might work better

we are all fighting for the same cause

Catering to the "Libertarian" neo-Nazi crowd so they buy your product vs wanting to defend minorities against these sort of people is not the same cause

I saw it as an open source Reddit alternative a few years ago and signed up, then left and went back to Reddit because nobody was using it. Then the API stuff happened, some Reddit users switched to Lemmy so I've been browsing it now, switched between a few instances and am now back here.

(I do wish it had more communities for specific topics and locations like Reddit has, and ironically a lot of FOSS discussion is still on Reddit also.)

I love self-hosted Bitwarden, whenever my server goes down or there's a power outage and I'm out of town, my extensions and sometimes apps stop working and now I can't access my passwords. Currently experiencing this right now, I might switch to KeepassXC after this

Hey do you want to go get some pizza after work? BTW I love this new messenger called Lemmy, I feel so much safer that we're not being spied on! C ya
