This depends on use case. Do you need a laptop for web browsing and sending emails? Sure an old MacBook can be a fun toy/tool.
Do you need it for serious work/productivity? Maybe not. I still have a 2010 intel MacBook Pro running Linux that could technically handle my work flow but I wouldn’t use it as a daily driver.
