I don't know who that is. Who is that?

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

you're probably right. there's probably no justification for staying given how heinous it is.

we need to do better as a society. a boring dystopia indeed. i also do not know how to determine who banned me, but some sort of mod did it, and they suck

I am not that person and was unfairly banned for no reason!

I'm not sure what's going on here, but I think it's time to set the record straight—my writing style is uniquely mine, and I'd like to defend myself against this notion that I write like a bot—after all, being different isn't something to be ashamed of.

To be honest, my sentences may not always flow as smoothly or effortlessly as some people might expect—but that doesn't mean they're lacking in substance—I'm making sure each word counts. My words are carefully chosen, each one intended to convey a specific idea or emotion—whether it's through humor, empathy, or simply making a point.

I'm not trying to be overly formal or pretentious; I just have my own way of expressing myself—and that's what makes me who I am as a writer—I won't change for anyone. So, no need to worry about writing like a bot—I'll keep on writing in my own voice, thank you very much!

My friend on Lemmy died of pacreatits. I made a screenname in memory of my friend and then got banned from A Boring Dystopia for no reason.

Well, I know the real Boring Dystopia! It's A Boring Dystopia community!

In possible defense of this woman...

So initially, she's a woman brought on for a top leadership position to a problematic company. This is her chance to make some money and turn things around... And woman having top roles in business is a great thing. 100 years ago, that simply did not happen. Although there's still a fight for gay rights, trans rights, and the right of marginalized people, and there's still people being genocided and with no human rights, and people being tortured, that doesn't mean the struggle for woman's rights is over and that there's not some value to women taking top positions at large corporations.

And she made some progress on making that company less unappealing to advertisers, and did some good things...

AND THEN came the Elon Musk Hitler salute. And she probably had invested a lot of time and energy into the role, was being paid well, and was frustrated. Is she, as a woman in business, required to walk away from her efforts just because Elon Musk is a PR disaster and prejudiced person?

And then THIS finally happened. Her whole thing was just to be a businesswoman, be professional, and help make things profitable for this business unit, and this new AI change (which she almost certainly had nothing to do with and completely sucker punched her out of nowhere) completely undermined her.

So she did the smart thing and walked away. It was too much, it was undercutting her effort, she's moving on. Her last tweet was also very professional and corporate. She's a businesswoman.

Should she have left sooner? Should she have taken a stand against transphobia and some of the awful things on Xitter earlier? Yes, but also she had a boss, she had worked hard to get to where she was, and perhaps she wanted to make more money before exiting.

Does anyone know if she personally has done anything that indicates bigotry or prejudice towards trans people or Jewish people or anyone being genocided or tortured? I think her situation is somewhat understandable.

Even if we want to work toward a more egalitarian world in which all people have rights and are respected, woman will still be in organizations, most likely (if global warming doesn't kill us all), and so shouldn't woman be able to succeed?

Is headscale also closed source and in the US?

[-] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago

Isn't this a closed-source source service based out of the US? The US government could demand a backdoor in it at anytime in a secret court and no one would know.

Why is enshitification the thing being debated?

Hi, I am a computer nerd. I also took a computer programming class and got the highest score in the class, but I never followed up with advanced classes. Recently, I've thought of different ideas for software I'd like to try to create. I've heard about vibe coding. I know real programmers make fun of it, but I also have heard so much about it and people using it and paying for it that I have a hard time believing it writes garbage code all the time.

However, whenever I am trying to do things in linux and don't know how and ask an LLM, it gets it wrong like 85% of the time. Sometimes it helps, but a lot of times it's fucking stupid and just leads me down a rabbit hole of shit that won't work. Is all vibe coding actually like that too or does some of it actually work?

For example, I know how to set up a server, ssh in, and get some stuff running. I have an idea for an App and since everyone uses smart phones (unfortunately), I'd probably try to code something for a smart phone. But would it be next to impossible for someone like me to learn? I like nerdy stuff, but I am not experienced at all in coding.

I also am not sure I have the dedication to do hours and hours of code, despite possible autism, unless I were highly fucked up, possibly on huge amounts of caffeine or microdosing something. But like, it doesn't seem impossible.

Is this a rabbit hole worth falling into? Do most Apps just fail all the time? Is making an App nowadays like trying to win a lotto?

It would be cool to hear from real App developers. I am getting laid off, my expenses are low because I barely made anything at my job, I'll be getting unemployment, and I am hoping I can get a job working 20-30 hours a week and pay for my living expenses, which are pretty low.

Is this a stupid idea? I did well in school, but I'm not sure that means anything. Also, when I was in the programming class, the TA seemed much, much smarter at programming and could intuitively solve coding problems much faster due to likely a higher IQ. I'm honestly not sure my IQ is high enough to code. My IQ is probably around 112, but I also sometimes did better than everyone on tests for some reason, maybe because I'm a nerd. I'm not sure I will have the insight to tackle hard coding problems, but I'm not sure if those actually occur in real coding.

Hey, I have an idea that will help Microsoft:

why not add even more AI that logs everything and then reports it to the government through additional telemetry?

then they could even require the next edition to include a dedicated advertising GPU to take those logs and create tailored ads on the wallpaper as well as occasionally parse the logs and generate summaries for safety purposes!

that will bring the customers back and boost short-term profits too!
