I see no difference. Takes time and effort to write the standard book on electronics and also takes time and effort to produce the new scifi tv series. Both are (different) jobs but I don't think there is a difference if I pirate one or the other.

Meh, since there are so many false claims about famous people, ways to profit and get an audience by making allegations... I think it's really hard to tell. Seems established fact that he was a creep. And gathered children around because of some mental illness, to compensate for his own childhood that he didn't have. That doesn't automatically mean he abused them. And he wasn't convicted of anything. I say: can't tell, in dubio pro reo, but I wouldn't let kids anywhere near people like that.

Just to weigh in for once, since this is a common reply... That is certainly correct. But I think most people already know. Nonetheless, for some reason they still decide to ask strangers on the internet. I believe some people have their own reasoning behind that. I guess I just wanted to say that. Ultimately it's not wrong to point out this is just a random and biased crowd of people who supposedly spend too much time on the internet. Some people also need to hear that.

Nothing. My laptop has 8GB and while this is somewhat the limit, it's enough to browse, do office stuff, a bit of development/programming and even a bit of CAD for my 3D printer, video editing, retro-gaming and all sorts of things. I'd prefer to have 16GB because Firefox likes to eat a lot of RAM, but the laptop is too old for me to upgrade anything at this point.

If you'd like to waste your resources, you could run 4 other operating systems simultaneously in VMs. Or try artificial intelligence chatbots and load one of the large language models. They can easily make use of 32GB of memory and more.

Technically right, though. OP didn't specify we're talking about Linux here. And the way IKEA does it works quite well. At least for me. And they're nice and give you spare parts if you need them.

Thx. Yeah I figured that's the only reasonable explanation. They probably want easy instructions so it works for every messed up configuration without them getting lot's of support requests. But I like being taught what I do and why. Not just: click on this, click on that and it'll work somehow.

Mmh. If you like Machine Learning / AI / Stable Diffusion you're kinda screwed. Hope AMD ups their game regarding this.

Die sollen sich mal an die Menschen wenden, die Galeria-Kartstadt seit 25 Jahren künstlich am Leben erhalten. Wenn damit demnächst endgültig Schluss ist, brauchen die ja auch einen neuen Job.

It is difficult to control users, to ban them permanently etc. It is difficult to make money with federated software. You could maybe show ads. But nothing that'd make you rich.

No, i didn't notice that (well, except for this post and the negative post before). Maybe we subscribed to different stuff. Or i need to see more examples of such posts/comments.

Just ask them a bunch of indiscreet questions. Do you watch porn? What category of porn turns you on the most? Do you think it's appropriate to have sex in a room on the ground floor without curtains? What? You own curtains? What is your salary? What's the amount of money in your savings account? Why do you have so many loud disagreements with your partner? Don't you like visiting your in-laws? What's inside the drawer at the bottom, next to your bed? Have you had any embarassing and cringy moments in the last few years you'd like to share?

Of course this is only the beginning. It's not like the corporations collect data and then don't do anything with it. You'd also have to be okay with them deducing information about you. Try to use that information to manipulate you into giving them attention, buying the stuff they want you to buy. That system is in place to nudge you into thinking what the algorithm wants you to think. App developers are actively trying to make the apps more addicting so you spend more time with them... People just get exploited with the help of all of that data.

If people really are that tame and have no secret fantasies, no sensitive data, no shame, no personal shortcomings they'd like to forget... And they don't care about the annual security breaches of big platforms people use willingly, but that information then gets used by people who use it to send you spam or impersonate you and trick your grandma to send her retirement to some scammer... And they like to be shoved around by big corporations like cattle, used to fuel the capitalist system... ...I myself tend to leave them alone. There is nothing that can be done at this point. Those people are lost, and they don't want freedom for themselves.
