There is only one way to make people talk more than they care to. Listen. Listen with hungry earnest attention to every word. In the intensity of your attention, make little nods of agreement, little sounds of approval. You can’t fake it. You have to really listen. In a posture of gratitude. And it is such a rare and startling experience for them, such a boon to ego, such a gratification of self, to find a genuine listener, that they want to prolong the experience. If you like his writing go to his website http://craphound.com and read some of his books. He has some good stuff - been following him for years.
@Haus I'm less concerned about the potential for homeowner's mis-use and much more concerned about that data being outside the control of the person who installed it. Personally, I like my smart home stuff to be self-hosted and self-contained and if I ever choose to share it that will be 100% my choice.
The #federated posts show up in your feed like they're supposed to. Hover over the post's author @darkstar and you will see where he posted from.
But the instances need to allow their participation and many will not without a hat in hand.
Flash forward 8-10 months and the news post reads: “After catastrophic exodus Reddit asks to join the #fediverse to add content to platform in hopes of salvaging doomed IPO”
@_Rho_ The article is a puff-piece intended to promote the movie, not anyone's actual hot take. The actors might have stopped participating in promotion due to the strike but the publicists on the studio payroll will keep finding ways of shilling.
