Sorry if this is basic — I live in an old townhouse (2 levels plus basement) with a Verizon FiOS terminal in the basement, and the router hookup is on the ground floor. The walls are plaster so wiring is a bit of a PITA.

I would like to set up a home office and my personal server (Plex) in the basement, but ideally I would connect the server to the router via Ethernet. Does it make sense to rewire and move the router into the basement, then add wifi extenders to make sure we have solid connectivity upstairs? Or is there a way I can hook directly into the basement terminal, or add a second router/modem in the basement, then leave the main router where it is on the ground floor?

Finally, would Verizon do this work for me? Or do I need to consider DIY vs. finding a contractor to do it for me?
