Hello everyone,

I have a few questions about Frigate and security cameras, and I thought this would be a good place to ask.

I’m new to security cameras and Frigate, so please excuse any basic questions I might have.

I have a PC at home with an i7-8700 CPU running Proxmox, where I plan to install Frigate in an LXC container for device passthrough.

I came across this Amcrest camera on Amazon: Amcrest IP5M-B1276EW-AI. Since Amcrest is recommended, I assume it should work well, but I’d like to confirm before purchasing. If you have any camera recommendations in the $60 range, I’d appreciate them.

I also read that having dual network interfaces is recommended. My router doesn’t support creating new subnets (I don't know if that would be a problem), and my PC currently has only one network interface. My initial plan was to get a PoE switch and connect the cameras and the router to it, but would getting a separate PCIe network card, and then connect my PC to the switch instead of the router work for creating a separate, internet-less network?

Lastly, I understand that using a Coral accelerator is highly recommended. I’m deciding between the $25 PCIe version and the $60 USB version. Does Frigate benefit from the more expensive USB Coral, or is the $25 PCIe version sufficient? My motherboard is a Gigabyte B365M DS3H, in case that’s relevant.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Well, I do. In fact I've installed Linux on 4 classmate's laptops, after insisting for some time.

VSCode or JetBrains Rider are good options for .net development, both available on Linux.

On windows when I had NVIDIA I used DSR to be able to select 1440p and 4k in game. Is there something similar where I can render games at higher resolutions and downscale to native? I have an AMD card rx 6700 xt and I'm using Sway (wayland).

don't forget if you have location enabled in your phone it tracks every single place you've been to

  • I would be using it to watch jellyfin mostly, but also youtube (I've seen that smartube looks good) and netflix.
  • Security and privacy are priorities.
  • My budget is up to 50 dollars.

I've seen this one onn Android TV amazon link, is it any good?

I'm new to the android tv box world so any help is appreciated.

I don't understand the nuclear energy hate. Of the nonrenewables it is the cleanest, and it is not always possible to run 100% renewable, (they depend on natural factors such as sun or wind), while nuclear is constant and always producing. Look at Germany and how it is polluting using gas and fossiles, it would be a million times better it they used nuclear energy.

why not just evaluate the apps themselves

looks more like a KDE issue rather than a flatpak issue

This is my Shows directory. The metadata downloaded fine for '30 for 30', but even though I've tried many names for House of Cards, it doesn't download the metadata. I've tried 'House of Cards', 'House of Cards (2013)', 'House of Cards (US)', 'House of Cards (2013-2018)', 'House of Cards (US) (2013)'i, none worked.

I assume this is an issue with metadata fetchers. I have the ones that come by default: TheMovieDb, and The Open Movie Database.

Never had this issue before with any movie. The only other show I have is '30 for 30' and no issues with that one either.

Anyone knows how to solve this?

EDIT: It seems like TheMovieDb is not downloading any metadata for anything. When I click an actor in cast & crew section, no info is downloaded about anyone. Am I the only one having this issue?

EDIT: When I configured my netplan to have a static ip on my home server, I forgot to set the DNS. After setting the correct DNS it is now fetching the metadata.

Before switching to Linux I used to think: "Linux users really use the terminal to install apps?? So archaic". Now I can't be more grateful of being able to install everything from the terminal.

If you want microsoft word just use windows. There's no sense in a "Piracy-based" distro, what would it be? Having wine and qbittorrent pre installed?
