Nah. Probably the new CEO used her womanly charms to convince him after a yelling session to each other. I can bet my bottom dollar those two have something . He already got the one from neuralink

That dude is wild. He also got defaulted on his building lease. And hasn't paid his google cloud bills. Rumor is that google reached to spaceX(another of musk's companies) and say if you don't pay your other bill we will close both. And allegedly that's another reason they implemented the Twitter paywall

Yeah we might be totally fucking our citizens and have problems with our democracy.... But don't let that deter you from coming to visit and spend your money.

I always find it wild how some places can be two sided. The side you show to turista and the real side. Just like Brasil, Cuba or dubai

Now I'm thoroughly curious to see. How are they going to track this? Can I just not be logged in and use AdBlock? I mean even if I get three strikes I can always change my IP. What if I develop an AdBlock that goes around the counter? Will this be a arms race?. Idk what's next

I always found it fascinating how some governments will just throw the ball to the companies like.... figure it out I guess? I was talking to a friend about how some states on the US ,now require an ID to get into pornhub. (Although that's is 1st a breach of privacy and 2nd a logistical nightmare) so what did pornhub did? Just block access from those states. And while that's great news for VPN companies. It actually defeats the purpose of the legislation. Now they have even less control. Because small pages that will not follow rules like PH will be more insecure and prolific

This might be a tangent but I have actually been reading "hell's paradise" and been introduced to the idea of "the middle way" of Taoism. And it does make a lot of sense to me. Because I have seen the extreme left and I'm starting to see what extreme right could be. That the logical conclusion I get is a middle mix way. But I do see how in human nature it's hard to grasp this concept, because we tend to be more extremist and black or white tipe of thing.

I really appreciate your take. It's definitely a valid concern. The good thing about this,is that because Lemmy it's not a company, decisions and changes are more discussed on the community.

Regarding the issue that you bring to light with the idea I propose, maybe the join-lemmy instance list can only show instances that are federated? Again it will still allow advanced users to use a custom URL to join to a custom instance.and because (as far as my understanding goes, please correct me if I'm wrong) new instances are not federated by default. The mayority of the community will have to have agreeded to the communities on the list to some extent. In that case I personally use jerboa for mobile, and the idea of having multiple accounts sounds great too.

On regards to educating users better, that actually is a good idea. When I hear the term "feddiverse" I think that maybe a visual representation of the Lemmy federation can be helpful to understand the whole thing. Maybe an interactive map when you join to understand what's your "home" instance. Hell maybe we can take a page out of Nintendo Pokemon go and make a little questionare to suggest a instance for a new user to join.(again this will be a suggestion and they can always join a custom instance or redo the questionare). This will make it easier for the run of the mill user to visualize the concept and streamline the process

I was actually reading about it on another lemmy post. The thing is that most users will not engage with something that it's so complicated. A User who wants to join Reddit ,Facebook or Twitter they just go to the website register and then can use the platform. And while it's great for advanced users to have the choice to select their own instance. Most people don't want to be bothered by that and I can detract for the easy adoption of the platform (adoption that it's important for us to reach a critical user Mass and make lemmy a real competitor to Reddit). Maybe we can propose a change to the GitHub. To add more abstraction . Like when you sign up,it will automatically pick an instance for you from the federation to balance the load. But you can also (if you are an advanced user) pick it by yourself .
