I mean, the answer is very clear. It's not one reason, but several:

  • Reduced unit cost on the iPhone from removing the items and reducing the packaging requirements.
  • Ability to sell the items separately at probably a higher per unit margin.
  • Operations optimization. Reduced box size translates to significant reduction to freight costs.
  • Adds to corporate sustainability results.
