Lemmy.world is designed for people who want another Reddit. Interacting with their users & communities tells you all you need to know. I'd be a fan of defederating, tbh
This post looks LLM generated
MuPDF comes by default on CalyxOS, and is what I use.
As far as video types are concerned, Linux's multimedia codec support is much wider & more flexible than Windows via Windows Media Player. The app Celluloid for Linux (based on MPV) supports everything under the sun
Considering they often have the same shell, this is pretty funny
WebMs encoded with VP9 or even better AV1 are better than GIFs. Decode speed is negligible, especially considering how much more quickly it will load
Aegis is my favorite.
It is difficult to discern whether this is malice or Linus just being too incompetent, emotionally directed, & aloof to actually run LMG. He should have thought much more carefully before scaling to where they are now.
The great lengths people will go to just marginally improve their user experience. Just use a FOSS app that's 99% of what Sync is but doesn't have this BS
What about FOSS software is inherently jank? This is a stupid take that's likely informed by some bad past experiences, of which I've had many with proprietary crapware.
It is easier to find crap FOSS software because it is easier to make & maintain a FOSN project when you're less competent & you don't have a strategy for long term success. Proprietary software relies on for-profit motives to improve, while FOSS software relies on user feedback & community incentives. This is why, while the average quality of service from FOSS programs is potentially worse, the best QoS is usually from a FOSS program. See Elk for Mastodon for a fantastic example of premium quality.
My Framework Laptop experience was really poor. Battery life was impossibly bad, Linux support was not as stellar as promised, the thing had the loudest fan I've ever heard, & my entire mainboard died & it took support 2 weeks to diagnose the issue. I'd go System76. I went with a Mac for Apple Silicon, & I'm going to try Asahi Linux soon
I'm pretty much all BTRFS at this point
