Wait for real?! Good thing I didn’t bother to watch 3 yet, after the end of 2 was just setting up yet another rematch.

Hamnet: phenomenal acting, particularly from Jessie Buckley and Jacobi Jupe - I really felt a lot of the scenes deeply. The story flowed very nicely, though my wife informs me the book was quite different in a lot of respects.

Watching “H is for Hawk” tomorrow, it’s a week for emotional movies apparently.

Surely Sinners deserves at least 4.5 for the music scene in the joint alone!

I’m glad we agree on The Mastermind, though. I thought about walking out half way through and deeply regret sticking it out.

I found 28 Years Later a mixed bag. It felt like it tried to be five different types of movie in one; only some of it resonated with me.

(Great post, by the way!)

Are there any statements from the (particualrly smaller) teams who are claimed to have refused the cap?

Aside from the massive subscription cost increase in the UK, the other thing that puts me off watching cycling is if the result is too predictable from the start list.

At face value it feels like a budget cap could cause distortion of top talent across more teams, leading to fairer competition. The UCI should be careful, however, that budget restrictions are not allowed to translate into poorer wages for team staff.

I’m really keen on going to the cinema, but I can definitely see childcare costs killing that off in future. My local cinema is fantastic so I don’t mind paying for a (slightly) pricier ticket, but childcare would multiply the cost several times.

Mathematicians frequently use phrases like It’s obvious or It’s easy to see, which can be profoundly discouraging for a student who does not immediately find a concept simple. In math, grappling with extremely difficult problems is part of the learning process. “A challenging experience,” Ardila told me, “can easily become an alienating one.” It’s especially important to make sure that students are not discouraged during early challenges—what’s hard to see now may become easier in time. He struck this typically demoralizing math language from his teaching.
