Ok so I am not sure if it's just a change with the #NVDA 2025 update or not, but my method of making sure my #BrailleDisplay wakes when I reconnect it, leaving focus on the system tray clock, has stopped working. The time will still be read when it updates but if the display has just reconnected it will not change off just reading "braille display", which as long as that's all that is being shown you cannot use the display to input anything. If anyone has thoughts of a setting or add-on that will make it so I can be sure the display will fully wake and accept input when reconnecting I'm all ears.

Ok @main @mastoblind give me your suggestions for must have #NVDA add-ons. I operate my PC completely with a #BrailleDisplay over bluetooth, and have the Braille Extender, Resource Monitor, and Windows Essentials add-ons that I remember. If an add-on is not in the store please include a link.

Ok for my more up to date tech inclined #blind people, is CCleaner still a valid tool, is it #accessible, and does it work with #NVDA? @main @mastoblind

@Kaliah @main @mastoblind Not at all, I would rather a Web App over installing software, I looked through the windows store before asking but the options were scarce.

@KaraLG84 @main @mastoblind ah ok, that's what I get for trusting search engines these days.

@KaraLG84 @main @mastoblind That one I have looked at before and am not sure where you get it, it's a GitHub thing?

@pixelate @main @mastoblind That did not allow other instances I thought.

Ok @main @mastoblind what do people use for their mastodon client on Windows with #NVDA? I have tried the web client but it's so so cluttered and there's no way to move through the feeds quickly. I'm on Dragonscave so I need something that will work with that.

@main @mastoblind Ok coming up on a month in and my #Beelink EQR6 #MiniPC has been great, best experience with a computer since I went #Blind. I have it set up as an always on headless device that I am operating with bluetooth headphones, my Bi40x #BrailleDisplay, and #NVDA.

As it is the start of the month I shall do some shameless promoting of https://ourblind.com/ for all the #blind, #deafblind, #lowvision, and #visuallyimpaired people around. @main @mastoblind

@main @NVAccess So if this is a known thing I cannot find it, when closing some applications, Edge for example, with alt+f4 #NVDA does not focus anything afterward and instead just says "Window" which is also displayed on my braille display as a window marker and blank otherwise. This blank window requires using alt+tab, the windows key, or the like to get out of.

@main @mastoblind Update on my #miniPC, it has been the best experience I have had with a computer since becoming #blind. has been up almost constantly for the not quite 2 weeks I have had it, only restarting for updates and such, it's happy as a clam to just be left alone and do its thing.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

@fastfinge Yeah maybe, the machine I got should be able to handle some of that.

Ok, @main @mastoblind so I have a quandary, I got a new PC, it works great, I have been using it ton with #NVDA and my #BrailleDisplay, and I have realized I have no clue what to do with a PC… I have Discord, Outlook, and Reddit open almost always, but that's all things I do on my phone as well.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

@main @mastoblind I did find making sure the focus is over the system clock when disconnecting the display and leaving the PC idle does work for this, the clock causes #NVDA to update every minute which will update the display and bring it back to working without needing to do anything with the qwerty.

@main @mastoblind Ok anyone know if there's a screen saver type add on for #NVDA that will update focus? Due to either something with NVDA itself, or just good old #Microsoft being stupid it appears that #BrailleDisplay connected over bluetooth cannot clear screen savers, or do really anything after being disconnected for any amount of time without first moving the focus via something like a Qwerty keyboard. All that's needed is something that would overlay a few objects after nothing has updated focus for a bit, and then just juggle it between them.

@NVAccess @main @mastoblind This a applies to screen savers as well, the braille display cannot wake the PC from it.

@NVAccess @main @mastoblind Ok found this issue being reported back over a decade. https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/2315

I found a handful of others that were closed for being duplicates of this original issue, or one of a couple other identical ones.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

@NVAccess @main @mastoblind Yeah I will try and get to that, the consistant things are that any screen that is flagged as secure cannot be acted on by the #brailledisplay, even if #nvda is running with elevated permissions, examples are the lock screen and the windows UAC dialogues, such as the one that pops when giving NVDA permission to run on the lock screen. Saving a config to use on secure screens did not make any difference.

@main @mastoblind @NVAccess is there a way to have #NVDA input commands like Win+I or Alt+F4 when operated with a #BrailleDisplay? I cannot find an option to do this.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

@fastfinge @thistledown I did not realize we’re basically same age, also yes I use UEB but have only been using #braille for just under 2 years, and have also been learning the older codes because of written works not being in UEB.

@fastfinge @Orinks You can view the posts but that requires either following the user who posted, or going into the reply that shows on mastodon and activating the post at the top of the thread.

@[email protected] tested with my NLS eReader again and it does work now when connected via USB which is good. #android #accessibility #talkback #braille #BrailleDisplay
