Sorry but

Why would I need another iPod? My phone does everything the iPod did but better, and more. I've loaded it up with all my DRM-free MP3s from Google Play Music before that shut down, and I can watch whatever I want on it offline. Why buy what would certainly be an even more enshittifird iPhone with less features at Apple's totally sensible prices?

Yeah, dictators are known for promising good things after enduring "just a few months of pain," as this pain becomes the signature of their rule.

I hope this was worth it for you, Americans.

If this succeeds, loot boxes would vanish almost overnights, right? Bring it on.

A premium tier for WhatsApp? The app I want to get rid of but can't because employers can't be assed to send emails or make phone calls first?

[-] cybernihongo@reddthat.com 23 points 2 months ago

No, it's not. It's extra not wrong if the "legal" method includes DRM or forces you into any DRM platform.

This reminds me, the Mojo Launcher is available on Google Play. You can download the app for free, create a local account, download whatever version you need, and you're already in-game.

I only created a local account because I was too lazy to log into my MS account ~~(can Mojang die for this migration sin?)~~ before I realized I just downloaded Minecraft Java Edition for free with an app from the Play Store.

You didn't hear anything from me.

The strings mentioned are worrying. The developer verification requires an internet access - what if there's no internet or the connection is spotty? Does that mean you can't install the APK without Uncle Google having the internet first?

Android already scares you away from installing APKs.A modern Android device does not simply let you install an APK without going through a lotta mental gymnastics. On a Xiaomi device with HyperOS, you have to turn the permission on for it and sit there for ten seconds to read their warnings before you can manually proceed. Each time you install something, there's a chance Google Play will pop up to tell you the app does not support a modern Android version, and it will require your unlock or fingerprint to even continue. Not to mention some apps literally tell you Google Play is unsure of their security and offers you to send it so what I assume is their automated systems could give the APK file a look.

If all these scare tactics didn't stop you, there's nothing more Google or the manufacturers could do without stripping even more of what made Android great in the first place.

That's actually better. I assumed she was writing a prompt.

GOG's installers work great with Wine as do the games themselves. If you desperately need a launcher before you can even consider them, you can use Heroic Games Launcher - in fact I'd prefer if they throw their weight behind it than on Galaxy. A match made in heaven.

I guess the other good thing is GOG is not a US company, they're based in Poland. No tax money going to the American regime and their shenanigans I never asked for.

I was in the subway this morning and of all the passengers, I never expected a cat to be one. Ended up trying to take care of her so she doesn't do anything rash.
