Yes - it throws a message about insufficient privileges and won't let me edit, absolutely insane that they block this.

  1. Might have to consider this, not sure if it will let me disable DHCP - but I was also planning to stop using Pi Hole since it hasn't been as efficient as I expected.
  2. From what I've read, I won't be able to. It's also strange since it seems like DHCP is being handled by the ONT and not the router

Hi!

I'm having a weird issue while setting a static ip on my Windows 11 Desktop connected via ethernet, despite having done it for years without issue.

  1. I'm setting the static IP to 192.168.1.50 via network settings, along with the gateway and dns
  2. I will no longer be able to access any website via a browser
  3. However, I am still able to ping other devices on my network - and pinging www.google.com works

I read about, and see that you shouldn't set an IP within the router's DHCP range - which for me is uptil 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.253 (I cannot edit this, it's an ISP router)

  1. I have tried a few different addresses that I know are not assigned to any other devices
  2. I had set 192.168.1.100 on my Raspberry Pi a few months ago, and that has been working without issue
  3. I noticed that if I set the IP on my Windows Desktop, the router will show the system - but with a different name - if it's set to DHCP, then my router displays the correct device name.

The gateway and other settings are correct - and are the same I use on my Raspberry Pi.

Would appreciate any help!

I was just about to buy Plex Lifetime on Black Friday, looks like that isn’t going to happen now

Hi!

I’ve just been reading up for the last few weeks on SFF PCs and Hard Drives (To replace my current raspberry pi with an ssd)

I’m picking up a HP SFF G5 PC to use for Plex, and was wondering if I could buy an Exos and use it without issues.

Some concerns I had were

  1. Heat - Since the SFF PC only has a fan for the motherboard and PSU (AFAIK), and I live in a place where temps are high - will heat be a concern?
  2. Noise - I plan to keep this near my TV in the living room, I’ve read these drives will be very noisy in a plastic NAS - but will this be unusable in a metal PC with rubber feet?
  3. Power - From what I’ve read, these SFF PCs don’t have a large PSU, at max - I’d have two drives in the system. Will power be a concern?

Appreciate any help and insights - thank you!

Edit - I’m planning to get an 8 or 12 TB drive, will the 8 be quieter?

Hi! Found this sub a few months ago, and am still learning! Just wanted some inputs on adding additional storage -

Current setup - 8GB Raspberry Pi 4B, connected to a 1TB SSD. This runs Arr apps, Nextcloud and PiHole.

I initially thought 1TB was more than I’d need on a Pi, but here I am :)

Options I’m considering - -2 or 4 Bay NAS (Expensive, not sure what a NAS would add honestly) -Some sort of HDD adaptor which can hold a couple of drives, and connect it to the Raspberry Pi (Not sure if the pi will see multiple drives, or if it’ll consider the whole thing as 1 combined storage) -I’ve seen the HP Microserver which seems to have 4 drive bays, and thought that could behave like a NAS. I don’t know if this is more powerful than the Pi I have. -Buy a HP Mini PC to replace the Pi and build a NAS out of the Pi.

The Pi is good, but is choppy when playing some 4K videos on Plex/Jellyfin while 1080p works fine - not sure if either of the HP options would be able to play 4K or if they’re worth spending additional money on.

I’d appreciate any inputs! I’m not in the US so my options are more limited. I presume the cheapest option would be to buy an 8-10TB Drive with an adapter and plug it into the Pi - but I’m wondering if I’ll run out of storage again

Thanks!
