"Across the UK and around the world, the tide has turned. From musicians chanting at Glastonbury, to students occupying campuses, to doctors’ unions passing motions of solidarity, public opinion has shifted. People are demanding an end to active participation in genocide and ethnic cleansing.

The votes two weeks ago at the British Medical Association’s annual representative meeting - the largest gathering of doctors in the UK - are a powerful symbol of that shift."

Donald Trump said he had separately warned both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping that he would bomb their respective capitals if either of them invaded their neighbors, newly released audio broadcast by CNN shows.

The U.S. president was recorded speaking at a private fundraiser in 2024 about his conversations with Putin and Xi.

"With Putin I said, 'If you go into Ukraine, I'm gonna bomb the s*** out of Moscow,'" Trump is heard saying, recounting his version of their conversation. He also said with Xi he also threatened to "bomb the s*** out of Beijing" if it invaded Taiwan, the self-governing island that China claims as its own.

The US supreme court has cleared the way for Donald Trump’s administration to resume plans for mass firings of federal workers that critics warn could threaten critical government services.

Extending a winning streak for the US president, the justices on Tuesday lifted a lower court order that had frozen sweeping federal layoffs known as “reductions in force” while litigation in the case proceeds.

The decision could result in hundreds of thousands of job losses at the departments of agriculture, commerce, health and human services, state, treasury, veterans affairs and other agencies.

Hah whatever dude, you're doing more harm than good flying off the handle like that. It just gives them something to point to when they bring up their "we're just being bullied :'(" arguments

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Oh neat, any way to make bongs? I was told bongs I had to be especially careful with because you're inhaling out of it instead of just eating

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

You'd think, but from what I understand the Invidious/YT cat and mouse game is rather intense so the larger public instances often don't work and it's better to use smaller private or personal instances instead

So most who care have opted to just set something up to handle YT links on the fly

It wasn't my intent to criticize Piefed either, just trying to not over sell it to new users, I'd rather not them be thinking it's a perfect drop-in replacement, and then have a sour taste in their mouth when they run into an issue

Iirc it was mostly around notifications and federation delays

Lol I'm trying it out, davel un-instance-banned me after that meme went live and then banned me from each comm individually instead, so they could brigade my posts/comments

Soooo I decided to try out .cafe since they defed from the entire triad lolol

[-] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago

Yes and no, this topic comes up fairly frequently, and generally...nobody knows the best solution forward LMAO

piefed.social is a Lemmy "competitor" and is intended to be fully interoperable, but in practice it hasn't matured yet and it's interoperability with the Lemmy-verse is decent but has its quirks

But a big thing there is they have a multi sub type feature to combine comms like that

But some people also like the multiple comms, because they can have different viewpoints and culture.

Like lemmy.ml is a huge Tankie instance and their c/memes comms moderation skew towards censoring of comments and posts critical of Russia/China/NK and allows political memes

Where as c/meme on .world have banished most political memes directing them to [email protected] instead

Welcome! We've got memes on deck at [email protected] and if you're a programmer of some kinds we got [email protected] to scratch that itch and be sure to drop a shit(post) off at [email protected] or if you want SCIENCE and memes head over to the wonderful [email protected] or if you just want regular SCIENCE mander.xyz is full of sciency comms like [email protected] and [email protected] . [email protected] is also nice this time of year, but you'll have to post before you can leave.

We're not without our cons though, biggest problem we have are probably the Tankies (Authoritarian "communists" who will overlook any wrong doings of China, Russia, NK because they think their governments are the "gold standard"), but here they're mostly on the Tankie Triad lemmy.ml, lemmygrad and hexbear. You have a .world account so you only have to worry about .ml, but on Lemmy you can do a personal instance wide block if you'd rather just not deal with them. If you want to see what they get up to from a safe distance check [email protected]

Trying to shore up against .ml brigading, before I was instance-banned so .ml users couldn't see my posts n stuff. Then 2 months later, totally not coinciding with a recent meme I posted, davel was so kind as to fix that and only manually ban me from .ml comms individually so that .ml users could see and brigade my posts and comments again

Thanks, I read through it and it makes sense now, though I'm not sure how much we can trust CDC info currently, but it doesn't look like it's been modified (yet) to be crazy

I'm def in that window, so that's probably why that or the whole "unless there's an outbreak" part, which is why I asked him about it in the first place lmao

Intentionally as in "X parts of my personality are pushing people away so I should work on that"? Yea in general, but it's not easy, it requires serious effort and motivation from within.

Over time and just leaving it to fate on if those changes are good or bad? Also yes, but without putting in the effort to control it who knows where it'll end up. Like if someone is "an angry person" in their 20s maybe they'll chill out in their 40s...or get worse
