Addis Ababa, March 30, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia is advancing its electric mobility agenda with plans to expand the country’s electric vehicle (EV) assembly centers to 60 in the coming years and strengthen supporting infrastructure nationwide.

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics indicated that the government is actively promoting the use of electricity in the transport sector to reduce reliance on fuel.

In an exclusive interview with Fana Media Corporation, State Minister Ber’o Hassen noted that directives have been issued to convert all vehicle assembly lines to electric vehicle production.

He highlighted that more than 100,000 electric vehicles are already operating in Ethiopia and that the government has set a target to increase this number to 500,000 in the coming years. Since 2016 E.C., domestic production of gasoline-powered vehicles has been banned, and all government vehicle acquisitions have been shifted to electric models. [VERY COOL 😎]

To support the growing sector, gas stations are being instructed to install EV charging facilities, while financial and non-financial incentives are being offered to businesses engaged in the electric vehicle supply chain, the State Minister indicated.

Policies include tax exemptions for locally assembled EVs, a 15% customs duty on fully imported electric vehicles, a 5% duty on partially assembled imports, and discounted registration fees with distinctive green license plates to encourage wider adoption, Mr. Ber’o recalled.

In the public transport sector, Ethiopia has launched public-private partnerships in Addis Ababa, and discussions are ongoing with foreign investors to expand participation in the sector.

These measures, he noted, reflect Ethiopia’s commitment to scaling up electric vehicle production and infrastructure, building on past achievements to support broader adoption and a greener, more sustainable transport system.

Resistance Inside the Army (en.wikipedia.org)

The abbreviation or acronym RITA (sometimes written in low case, "rita") stands for "Resistance Inside the Army", "Resister Inside the Army", or "Resist! Inside the Army".[1]

It was first invented by the American Private Richard (Dick) Perrin[2] in September 1967. It was soon widely used to describe "the resistance inside the American military" during the Vietnam War, and up to the present as a concept for similar "Resistance" movements in other armies. The term is also sometimes projected backward historically, to earlier wars when the term did not yet exist, but the phenomenon arguably already did.

Such RITA movements distinguish themselves from other components of anti-war movements, such as draft resistance or desertion, by the fact of their activists being soldiers and intending to go on being soldiers.

Ngl I kinda miss cable, just for the aspect of being able to choose content based on channel and just let it go

There's a way to replicate it in Plex/Jellyfin by basically building out your own "channels" and having it draw from your own content files, but that's a project in of itself that is on my ever growing project list lmao

Ikr? Lol I haven't run MythTV since I last paid for cable and had a Cablecard sooo about....10+years now lmfao

Why this random ass latam country has it so good? I don't fkng know, competition probably, as there are many companies fighting for costumers.

Its because of legacy technology debt, the US was "first" to deploy out consumer Internet infrastructure, but that also means before we could deploy each iteration something had/has to be done with the old and that's pricey

Now a developing country deploying internet infrastructure for the first time can deploy straight to fiber because the countries who were first did all the hard work developing the tech and they don't have to worry about ripping out any old infrastructure

This was crossposted and is available in the crosspost menu of your client.

Edit: found the exact post, it's the same title and everything: https://sh.itjust.works/post/54438100

For one, I don't really crosspost from any other instances comms (save for the occasion where I know of a fitting small niche comm). For two, that's on an entirely different comm on a different instance ( !lemmyshitpost@lemmy.world vs !funny@sh.itjust.works that this post is on.) Third, I only crosspost from .ml, so the irony here is that the OOP on .ml actually reposted it instead of crossposting lmao

This was picked up on a .ml crosspost, this could have been picked up from Reddit or anywhere really since it's a screenshot, so don't go around accusing people of following a shit stain based on a single screenshot

It's DBZ rules, it's going to be a long protracted build up and then it'll be over in 5 minutes

Lol it is

Why am I cross-posting .ml content?

I cross-post from .ml to the nearest relevant non-.ml comm to reduce the influence of .ml comms and indirectly, the instance as a whole, to make it an easier decision for other instance admins to defederate because one key reason I identified that admins don't want to defederate is because .ml still has some very large comms and some niche comms.

Megathread on the issue

Some highlights from the link:

"Don't worry guys, the Uyghur Genocide was REALLY just birth control! ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/30580167

"See! nobody died IN Tiananmen Square, just AROUND it, so it doesn't count!!" ~ Davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/30673342

.ml admin, Nutomics continued transphobia https://lemmy.world/post/29222558 The original transphobic Comment from Nutomic: https://lemmy.world/post/18236068

"NK is actually good and anything counter to that is Western propaganda!" ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/31595035

General negative sentiment to other instances who haven't "seen the way" yet ~davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/27426510

"If you don't support Russia then you just don't understand geopolitics" ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/27352415

And so so much documentation on clear heavy handed censorship and bias also on the link. So much I can't even put them all here because this comment would be really long.

I believe the behavior of its admins (the main admins are Lemmy devs) does harm to the overall growth of the Lemmy-verse and maybe even the Thrediverse (since Lemmy kinda kicked off the Thrediverse) because of its association with the devs of Lemmy and their insistence to use .ml as their personal political platform to spread harmful propaganda

On the outside, bringing up Lemmy frequently leads to comments like "Lemmy? Isn't that the place with a bunch of tankies?" Or "Tried Lemmy, but found it full of pro Russia crap so I left". The best way forward from that I see is to either widely defederate from .ml like the rest of the Triad, or pressure them to put a fair and unbiased as possible admin team.
