The way ActivityPub federation works, once an instance is "linked" (like lemm.ee linking with lemmy.world, lemdro.id, etc), the instance will now send them an event once a post is made or something like that.

For example:

lemm.ee ---links--> lemmy.world
lemm.ee user makes a post A
lemm.ee ---notifies--> lemmy.world
lemmy.world makes a copy of post A.

So yes, every Lemmy instance stores copies of new data from other instances once they link.

Most people who dislike cloudflare do so for their centralization of the internet, rightly so.

A feature that's be nice is giving you a higher upload limit if you make your upload temporary.

Lemmy wouldn't really takeoff to replace Reddit until it's content is search indexable by Xylight in c/[email protected]

Lemmy will be indexed less than Reddit, ignoring user counts, because lemmy-ui is client rendered. Googlebot and some others can still index client rendered sites, but others will ignore the content.

If you dislike the new default colors, just go to theme settings and select "photon classic"

This new update allows instance admins to set their own themes (via PUBLIC_THEME) and allows you to have multiple theme presets.

It's available on phtn.app right now, coming soon to a release

I like these colors, as it gives a bit more personality than neutral gray.

But what do you think? If I did make this the default dark theme, I would add presets to the theme page including a "classic" preset.

HDD or SSD for a home server? (lemdro.id)

I'm new to this stuff so go easy on me.

So I want to get into selfhosting, and I've decided to get a Raspberry Pi 5. I plan to attach drives to it, from about 500GB-1TB. I'm on a budget, preferably under $100.

I want to host these things:

A personal lemmy instance
A samba server, to store files and backups
A mail server
A few other light docker containers

I was wondering whether I should get an SSD or an HDD for these. Lemmy would probably like an SSD because it uses Postgres, but an HDD would be better for storage since I get more GB per dollar.

What should I go with?

I have a few questions, please comment if you match all of most of these:

Do you use an RX 6000 series GPU?
Do you experience random freezes when playing games?
Are those freezes a "page fault"? (Use journalctl to check)
Do these issues occur in OpenGL games?
Are the page faults a GCVM_PROTECTION_FAULT?
What mesa version do you use?
What Linux distro do you use?

I've been having frequent freezes and it renders my operating system nearly unusable. I have to restart my computer to recover, and I lose all of my unsaved work.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Do you use an RX 6000 card on Linux but have not had this issue?

I've never had an issue with any drivers on Linux, everything I use just works. Even some old obscure drawing tablet from 2005 that said it required you to install its driver worked instantly.
