Brand written big

What the product is written super tiny

If I could enshrine 1(one) regulation into law it would be to reverse that.

Title. While doing some other work, he realised that underneath the console where his TV went, there were a bunch of cables from past-inhabitants-of-this-house's cable TV setups.

He reasoned he'd solve this by sawing off those unseemly white cables, thus opening space for new stuff.

Except... The ethernet cable that connected the internet router to the Switch that routed it all over the house, connecting to our shared family homeserver and such? Yeah, it was also white, and also down there.

So. My dear ol' dad took a saw to his internet. And chopped it down. Now he'll need to call someone to run the cables through the walls again (this is Brazil. Walls are solid concrete. Running new cables through walls is NOT easy!)

EDIT: It is fixed. And all it took was me and the technician spending 8 hours running around the apartment, pushing/pulling cables into/from holes in the wall, and yelling "DO YOU SEE ANY MOVEMENT?"

Not really

Windows 7 was pretty, it was customisable, it was stable. And microshaft had yet to start fucking about with ads everywhere and invasive "features". Peak windows right there.

XP was also pretty good for its time. At that point Linux and OSX had caught up and surpassed it in many ways, but it did what it had to without getting in the way.

95 was an innovator if anything, ahead of pretty much anything else on desktop at the time, even if it DID fart and die whenever someone looked at it funny.

It was always a proprietary creation by an anticompetitive tech megacorp, and therefore bad from THAT angle, but it didn't start being truly shite from a pure user experience angle until like. 8.

Title. It's very easy to find films in the original language or subbed. The megathread has plenty. But I want to build up a collection of kid-appropriate and Brazilian dubbed films for my nephew.

Because they don't want the workers voting.

If you "can't go to the ballot because you need to work" you are a plebeian, and so they have a way of excluding you while technically not excluding you.

A lot of modern oligarchy is powered by these technicalities. Technically everyone has a "right to" participate in the system, but the whole apparatus is rigged in such a way that in material reality only the same nobility caste that has called the shots since the bronze fucking age gets to call the shots.

The only thing you got wrong is that the toilet extension would be a third-party thing, and Gnome devs would actively insult anyone who dared be upset they broke it.

I hope this becomes popular enough that a lot of major distros start adopting it as a default

Specifically because I want to see turbo-weirdos talk about how higher-quality cursors are "bloat" or "against KISS" for the next 10 years. 💀

Animator works on show. Show airs.

Show has no physical DVD/BD version

Show only exists on streaming service or on DRM-locked "buy and own but not really" services.

Show gets pulled from internet because some corporate license expired or some shit like that.

Show no longer exists anywhere other than the corporation's hard drive and pirates' seedboxes.

Animator needs to show their own work as part of a video portfolio to a prospective employer. A scene they made for a well-loved show is great portfolio material.

The corporation ain't sharing. Not until someone sues for the right to get a hard copy of the show they worked on -- Which given how the entire American state does when corporate interests fight any other interest, is something no one animator is willing to do as it'll probably not just drain their finances, BUT has a legitimate chance of fucking over every OTHER animator down the line.

Ergo.
Animator needs to pirate it.

In ye olden days, shows often aired only on TV and didn't get VHS releases. But animators would often just. Tape the show they worked on. Off of the telly. With a VCR.

Which in practice is the same thing as what the pirates are doing, creating a local copy of media that is airing, but corporations don't want you to realise that. So. Here we are.

Methinks right wing preppers know exactly what they are doing and are preparing to rob and loot the community-building efforts that other people create communally after the fall. But hey, that's just a theory. 💅

Finally: ClosedSubtitles

EDIT: Also, MAN, a lot of straight up bootlicking in this thread. What the fuck kind of pirates are you? lmao

There IS a fancy term for a fuck buddy. The word is "paramour"

But if you actually used it, people would think you're pretentious lmao.

Having sniffed around the Linux community for years, I feel like whatever flaws SystemD has as a computer program are of tertiary importance when faced with the thing that really matters:

  • The developer of SystemD was mildly rude to some community members that one time. That means he is two hitlers and a stalin wearing a trenchcoat and everything he makes must be utter garbage.
