Denormalize recording and streaming people in public. Especially if you're trying to get people onto public transportation, many potential riders are going to be put off by the idea of being photographed and recorded.

Nah I think the best thing for the Chinese government to do would be to direct Tik Tok to leave the US market. Put it on Huawei app store or something and watch all the zoomers learn how to sideload apps.

If Tik Tok leaves the US market it'll still be a huge social media player in Europe and the rest of the world. That would be an American soft power nightmare - a global platform that Americans are blocked from influencing on by their own laws.

Saw this while scrolling Taobao. Don't want to come off like a shill so won't post the link here, but it was too good not to share.

Truly living up to the title of Reddit Island.

Apparently Yemen has a long tradition of war poetry. Apparently the modern versions slap.

My favorite parts are the multiple angles of Biden failing to climb stairs.

Shit like this is exactly why I don't want to compromise on shit like xi-plz, "unlimited genocide on the first world", and jokes about the mayocide.

There will never be an end point to this kind of bad faith concern trolling. If you start giving ground in the name of liberal respectability they'll whittle you down to arguments about genocidal fruit.

With all the unchecked Zionist messaging flooding the airwaves recently, I cracked a smile at this arrogant ambassador getting out in his place.

On November 20, China, as the rotating President of the UN Security Council, told Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, during his speech condemning UN Women, that he should maintain some respect for the briefer invited to the meeting.

When Gilda Erdan used improper language to criticise UN Women at the meeting, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, respectfully interrupted him to remind him to respect others while expressing himself.

I don't remember this happening very often at UN conferences.

Roughly translated below are the comments made by China's representative to the United Nations.

"Distinguished representative of Israel, I would like to remind you that you can fully express your different opinions in your statement, but please show respect at least for the briefer invited to the meeting. This is the consistent practice of the Security Council and a rule that everyone should abide by. I would like to remind you to pay attention and please continue your speech."

The article is still biased as hell and couched in the usual "China had" scare language, but here's a few good quotes.

China’s carbon emissions have either peaked already or will do this winter, seven years ahead of schedule. They may plateau for a year or two but will then go into exponential decline for mechanical and unstoppable reasons.

The country’s target of net zero by 2060 is likely to be achieved a decade earlier than previously assumed, and perhaps earlier than in Europe.

Lauri Myllyvirta, co-founder of the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, says China has reached a structural tipping point where the roll-out of renewables is outpacing the rise in electricity demand.

“A drop in power-sector emissions in 2024 is essentially locked in. We’re likely to see a fall in total CO2 emitted in the first half of next year,” he said.

At the risk of overtaxing the reader’s appetite for figures, it is worth spelling out the enormity of what China is doing. The China Electricity Council says the country will add 210 GW of solar this year, twice the entire solar capacity installed in the US to date.

It is not going to stop there. Carbon Brief says China’s output of solar panels was 310 GW in 2022; it will be 500 GW in 2023; and 1000 GW in 2025 – four times the total installation of new solar worldwide last year.

Regarding the scare point of new Chinese coal plants:

The regime is approving two new coal plants a week. It does not mean what many in the West think it means. China is adding one GW of coal power on average as back-up for every six GW of new renewable power. The two go hand in hand.

“The more renewable energy used, the more the need for coal peaking capacity. A large number of coal power units will be idle,” says Chinese coal expert Li Ting.

Obligatory Westoid nonsense about how Xi is evil and he just wants to take over the world with his sinister measures to protect the environment.

Xi seeks global supremacy. He was never going to let climate worries alone hold back China’s rise. But today the two are in perfect alignment. Clean-tech has become the spearhead of China’s global economic conquest, and this changes the thrust of Beijing’s climate diplomacy.

It is no longer possible for foot-draggers to hide behind China. As Chinese emissions roll over and go into free-fall, Xi will become an even bigger problem for them than Western preachers.

Isn't it interesting that Taiwan Island's thin veneer if Librul Democracy peels away when it comes to accepting racial minorities that aren't White or Japanese? If the DPP claims that "Taiwanese" is a different identity from Chinese, then why can't Indian people be part of that Taiwanese identity? The PRC recognizes 55 ethnic minorities in China and protects their rights, why are "Taiwanese" people reluctant to even accept living alongside Indian people?

Also, what level of Hell are we at where a government ministry unironically posts "stop the cap"? If you're going to claim to be a real government, maybe don't make public statements that a high schooler would make.

I'm sure Xi is beyond having his feelings hurt by Biden, but just look at Bilken's reaction lmao.

Inviting a head of state to your country to publicly insult them is unacceptable anywhere, so this is only going to further tarnish the shitty reputation of American diplomacy.

I know a few people who work in the UN/international courts and the emotional toll is exhausting. Spend years of your professional life compiling visceral evidence of genocide and crimes against humanity only to see it sit in a file somewhere because it's not politically expedient to prosecute the perpetrator.

China is so good at genocide that it can prevent any refugee outflows to neighboring Turkic Muslim countries and hide all video evidence in a day and age where every person has a video camera in their pocket.

China is so bad at genocide that its ingenious schemes can be foiled by one plucky German religious zealot and an Australian think tank funded by Raytheon.

The Saudis used their British weapons to bomb Yemen and create one of the worst humanitarian catastrophes in recent memory. The UK sold weapons to Saudi before, during, and after the Saudi involvement in Yemen.

Perhaps Russia should have merely bombed Ukraine to the point of starvation. Then they'd be a good dictatorship that the UK would be happy to carry out business negotiations with.

You know what? I never thought I'd say this but I'm with Ukraine on this one.

This whole counter offensive insanity is so militarily nonsensical that it had to have been mounted to please the West with a "win" so that they'd stay in the war. Real Chiang Kai Shek committing the best of the KMT army to Shanghai to impress the Westerners energy.

The West is standing on the sidelines, supplying just enough equipment to keep the embers going and judging the ordinary Ukrainians going to their deaths by their hundreds.

Fuck the clowns in charge in Kiev and fuck the Nazi militias obviously. But at this point the men being sent to the front are old men and boys dragged off the street against their will. Sending them to die to appease the West is fucking sick.

Many years ago, before I had even discovered /r/chapotraphouse, I used to post on /r/geopolitics. Of course as you can imagine the self-important nerds there would accuse people left and right of being Chinese/Russian bots. I once asked why the fuck the MSS or FSB or whatever would spend their time shitposting on a sub with like a thousand users and they claimed that "real international relations experts post here regularly" and then I got banned.

Worth it.
