That person has given me awful reactionary vibes for ages so I'm glad to see them banned, though I didn't know it was actually that bad since I can only really see the stuff that's not removed of course

But yeah, they always gave me the sense of "this person wants to be communist but not actually change their behavior" and seemed like the kind of person to try to find the "right reasons" to hate on something that's already getting shit for being "woke"

I think EndeavourOS (or anything based on Arch Linux) isn't a great distro to start with for a beginner, experienced users like to pretend that it's totally easy but it's really not, it generally relies more on the terminal and manual configuration than other easier distros

I agree with that other comment in this thread saying that a different distro would be a lot easier to learn, and I also agree with them about Fedora Kinoite being easy to understand as a new user (the distro I use is a variant of it), though I also understand that a lot of people here aren't fond of Fedora due to their connection to Red Hat, and Fedora's Atomic variants like that have some quirks that make them different from most other distros

I also agree that XFCE isn't a great choice of desktop environment, a big part of it being "lightweight" is because it lacks a lot of useful features that other DEs have, and if your PC can handle current Windows then you most likely will be fine with "heavier" DEs like KDE Plasma or GNOME, they still generally run better than Windows these days

I'd recommend trying KDE Plasma (Fedora Kinoite comes with it, but you can get it on most other distros too), it's very flexible but still pretty easy to use, its UI scaling works better than in any other DE I've seen, and it also has color blindness filters if that's what you mean by color filter (and if you mean blue light filter, it has that too)

I think it's a pretty huge red flag though that it's a brand new "transracial woke-free" account that immediately creates this community and starts using it to link fascist rags and nothing else

Lmao they literally sent that guy a Cease and Desist letter

Also, it seems like some people pointed out that OP's mistaken and that it's a different person who owns the site (a Ben instead of a Burton)... but that this Ben Gerber person has also worked in a fed think tank lmao

I think I'm finally doing this "touching grass" thing people talk about, I just got an e-bike a few days ago so I'm finally able to get out of the house in a meaningful capacity since I can't drive and I'm horribly out of shape, this lets me get around to places I need to go somewhat comfortably on my own while still letting me get a decent amount of physical activity (certainly far more than the near-zero I got before)

I've done a few trips just for fun and it's nuts just how much more you pay attention to and enjoy the environment compared to in a car, but today I did a grocery run and it was also very practical, I got a decent pannier bag I can clip to the bike that can be used as a shoulder bag or backpack and it holds a pretty decent amount

reddit logo users are harassing a trans person in the freedesktop organization for banning a well known bad actor from contributing, the guy who made hyprland, who encourages and participates in queerphobic harassment, especially against trans people

It's especially infuriating because previously people had reasonable discussions on /r/linux about how ridiculously shitty this guy is, but now pretend as if the accusations are completely unfounded, or pretend it doesn't matter (the usual defense is "it's his personal Discord, how can you ban him for stuff he does there??"), along with the usual complaints about "ideology infiltrating Linux" (this is especially hilarious seeing how many of these people also worship Richard Stallman), as well as the typical redditor idea that rules lawyering is perfectly valid because "debate" and any use of common sense moderation is "power tripping"

But all he has to do is say "Red Hat Bad!!" (this isn't even a Red Hat thing really) and write a few one-sided blog posts directly naming and shaming and everyone goes nuts

Words can't describe how upset I am at this situation, people like this are the absolute lowest scum of the Linux and free software community

Do you think they even realize how many of the people who write the software they rely on are queer 🤔

Edit: Feel a little more hopeful finding out that another thread was posted where people are far more reasonable, making it pretty clear that the thread I'm talking about isn't really the usual community response and is actually just brigading by the asshole's groupies

I didn’t say it was sexual? Where did you get that from?

your stance is essentially that any cartoon that depicts a human is inherently pedophilic.

Really? Is that my stance?

You literally started commenting in this thread by comparing it to Vaush's hard drive of pedo porn, there's no other reason why one would make that comparison other than to imply it's pedophilic, because liking cartoon/anime related stuff is nowhere near exclusive to people like him

You should seriously touch grass, whining about people liking cartoon characters is literally the most pointless thing you could be doing with your time and benefits no one

Someone I follow(ed) on Mastodon was just trying to shame people who don't vote, because of the idea that "Trump is going to immediately round up all us trans people and throw us in camps if you don't vote Biden!!"

As far as I can tell, the claim seems entirely made up, and it feels almost malicious to be basing that entire decision around the idea that "Trump MIGHT come after ME hypothetically!!" rather than all of the people Biden has already thrown in camps and all of the people in Gaza that Biden has given his unconditional support to genociding

It feels downright selfish to still be pushing that "vote blue no matter who" bullshit for that reason, and they clearly haven't learned shit from 2016 and 2020

They're also still under the impression that people choose not to vote just so that they can "push the Democrats more progressive", when it's basically the opposite, people realize they can't push the Democrats left so they're choosing not to participate in the sham they call a "democracy", but I guess this is one of those people who can only see politics within the confines of the US electoral system

Edit: Not to mention all the other shit people have mentioned as having been actively worse under Biden, it makes it feels especially garbage and selfish that one is still pushing the idea of Biden being a human rights savior

This comparison makes no sense, a motorcycle airbag vest doesn't require any effort on the company's part to keep working, but backporting security fixes absolutely does

[-] [email protected] 17 points 2 years ago

so their solution is to give white people a state

They never said this, you pulled this out of your ass lmao

[-] [email protected] 17 points 2 years ago

Man, it really sucks to find out that even on this site, there's still people who get upvotes for saying that people like me are something to be "cured"

Unfortunately one of the most vocal defenders in this thread is someone from here 😩
