Basically it's utility. Better practical accuracy & they lend themselves to working on shooting fundamentals. You don't have to devote attention to working the action so you can focus on shooting accurately. You also don't need to brake your hold of the rifle or sight picture. So you can focus on each individual shot & make fine adjustments between shots.

I love lever action rifles & they do have a lot going for them in a some ways, but I will say if a lever action has to be your first rifle then your second rifle should be a intermediate cartridge detachable magazine semi-auto rifle.But a lever action in 357 mag is far from the worst beginner firearm. They are a lot of fun to shoot & people are a lot less intimidated by them.
