Browsed the steam winter sales, was tempted to purchase something, but instead remembered that I have Dishonored 2 and never played it, cause my old PC struggled a little with it. Now I'm playing through the original to refresh my memory for the sequel and I didn't spend a dime on the sale!

This kind of stuff just boggles the mind. I've discussed with my american wife how it's so crazy the volume of insane, violent shit happening in the states compared to the rest of the civilized world and what could the explanation for it be. I'm pretty sure there isn't such a volume of serial killers anywhere else in the world and almost always the most effed up shit that happens in a somewhat civilized country, it's the states.

Incident like this in a european country would probably be the most horrific thing in recent history, lawmakers would scramble to do something about it and it would make headlines for a month. In the states it's just another tuesday afternoon.

What a sober reminder that most people on these platforms are either 20 years old or don't have kids, jobs and responsibilities, lol.

Regardless, fuck this enshittified subscription bullshit.

I recall them saying this about electric cars and solar panels 10-15 years ago.

POP and Mint seem to be the most recommended ones so I think I will start with one of them and see what happens. I'm not terribly opposed to tinkering a little bit and I generally try to avoid games with 3rd party launchers, so I'm sure it'll be fine. The only thing that concerned me was reading about Nvidia being a bit finicky (stuck with a 3070, but probably switching to AMD when this AI craze eases) with Linux, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

Kind of excited to dive in tbh, and that doesn't happen too often anymore, lol. Thanks for the reply!

That last sentence of yours is a lie and I think somewhere deep down you know that, too.

Seek help anyway you can. There is always a way.

It drives me insane that people never stopped to think about this. In my country we have arrived at a point where there are no independent grocery stores left, only a massive duopoly, with a third large international chain hanging onto like a few percent market share.

All 3 of them suck in different ways, prices are crazy high for the quality of food they offer, but there isn't really any choice anymore. And since only two chains share practically the entire market, their own store brands are choking the life out of our food industry, lmao.

I am kind of in the same boat as you, except I haven't yet tried Linux. I've just been reading up information about it and I also mostly use my PC for gaming and some work, but work is mostly in a browser anyway. I hecking despise Microsoft now for Windows 11 and just had to battle their forced updates that nearly bricked my computer and I've finally had enough. May I ask, which version of Linux did you find worked "out of the box" for you?

I'm still on W10 and this is what's happening to me, my hardware is good enough, but I don't want W11. It keeps forcing me to upgrade, it even downloaded the update without my consent and one day it just started installing, despite me telling it not to at every possible point. Something went very wrong with the update and after I rolled back to W10, my OS got corrupted and now I am moving to Linux Mint, as soon as I make sure nothing in my actual PC broke (event log says harddisk has bad blocks, but this only started happening after the forced update screwed things up).

How anyone at Microsoft thinks this is ok and a good way to treat a reliable user since W95, is just beyond me. But I am really excited to dip into the Linux world, finally!
