Preventing toothpaste residue in sink

This sink has a problem where dried out toothpaste builds up on the walls of the sink over time. So far I've tried using an old toothbrush to clean it up, which works pretty well. But is there a good way to prevent the residue from building up in the first place?
That's a good question for Google. Maybe they should have thought it through before pushing half baked technology on everyone.
