I want to buy a 00D9692 IBM Mellanox ConnectX-3 EN Dual Port 10Gigabit CX312A LP CX3.
According to the Mellanox ConnectX-3 docs the SFP+ ports can provide a maximum of 1 watt per port.
An RJ45 module consumes around 3 watts, according to ServeTheHome.
Does that mean it's impossible to use this NIC with RJ45 modules?
Because I want to use this card with my ethernet switch (don't wanna upgrade yet to SFP+).
Or is there maybe another solution to connect my ethernet switch to the SFP+ port of this NIC?
If these modules still work. Which one should I choose? Because I'm a bit comfused, I was that you can get IBM and Mellanox. But this card is both?
- 10Gtek € 50
- FS IBM € 85
- FS Mellanox € 85
If you use Cloudflare als your dns (you can transfer your existing domain) you can setup a cronjob that basically functions as a dynamic DNS. Then you only need to run this cronjob inside your home network. It's free if you already have a domain and something that runs 24/7 inside your home network
