America helps russia... now cossies up to china. What on earth is happening.
Only thing I got back for now is a specific subreddit that frankly is an anomaly even on reddit. Outside that, I am moving here for a reason.
Thought it was French?
I mean, it is reddit in 2026, they could've been banned because of many reasons, false flagged, IP ban mistakenly, AI blunder, toxic brigade reporting, you name it.
Reddit isn't what it used to be. My main account is fine, yet if I make any alt it gets instant banned for spam, think about that.
(And yes I checked if shadowbanned, not).
Yeah it has been rough. Decade and a half old account, frequent poster, moderater, went out my way to be open minded.
Never a single ban, until two years ago:
One ban for catching someone lying, they were friends with the moderator I learnt later.
One ban for crypto facism I think it was? Why? Explaining to someone what a certain right wing political faction in the uk was and the upside to them being a protest vote to put pressure on current government to do better. Not even my views, was just devils advocating for someone elses opinion.
For reference I'm a left leaning libetarian, there was no argument involved, just a zealous moderator who seemed really young.
A ban on privacy sub for replying to someone who said something political, tbh, fair enough, caught a stray as did others yet can't fault the logic, just the punishment (perma so hot right now)
Last was on a literature subreddit where the moderator made some questionable changes, I and some others politely discussed the changes, were upvoted for it, that ruffled mods feathers and so we all got a permaban.
When you become a moderator on reddit they give you resources telling you how to act, what the goal is, etc
It became abundantly clear that reddit doesn't care to enforce that. It's all just words to feel nice.
Echo chambers, ragebait, tons of bots and fake interaction.
I just had to find an alternative and here we are. You can tell the quality of discussion is so much better here.
Unfortunately even niche has issues like this.
Hey sorry if this is wrong place to ask etc.
I click your link to !floatingisfun yet it says it is empty, what am I doing wrong? Wanted to check out your hard work mate.
(Am new to lemmy)
A ton of stuff on reddit is by ai bots. A lot of people here are trying to get away from reddit for various reasons, one of those is how fake it has become.
We want real people, real discussions, the individual not the forced algorithmic nonsense that reddit has come.
Like why be another reddit when reddit is no good anymore.
Yeah those were the days. Stuff hasn't been the same for a few years.
To be fair, estimates put 20% to 50% of reddit users as bots, 15% of posts generated by ai, and in high traffic subs, non human interaction in comments/replies is 40/50%...
Reddits user statistics are essentially an illusion, majority are lurkers, people just checking an answer via google, or bots.
Real active population is tiny, and the new account creation and subreddit creation system is so horrendous that I honestly don't see how they get new people. I moved here because I created a second account to be a moderator for a subreddit I made, put in a lot of effort, both my account and sub were permabanned near instantly, no reply for why or from reddit help. Was absolutely eye opening.
Only thing was for rule number whatever: Spam...
Nothing human about the place, the individual doesn't matter, the corporation is all. It is why I've decided to move away from anything American.
From what I can tell, lemmy users tend to be more open to discussion and on most things a lot less echo chambery.
In reddit going against the grain gets you downvoted or banned by an overzealous mod.
At least on lemmy people mostly will give you a counterargument, or at worst ignore you.
