I’m not sure that Sublinks will happen. It was breathlessly announced as if it was coming soon with the promise of regular updates. But here we are eleven months later with no updates at all.

To me it’s just seems like Lemmy and the Threadiverse are slowly evaporating.

Phones encrypt the data by default, your password or pin is also needed to authorise the connection with a computer.

However, many people do insecure things like storing passwords etc in Notes applications, or having simple PINs that are easy to guess, don’t update their devices, or even turning off security features (if they can) because they won’t take a small amount of time to understand them.

The point is that calling the computer storage less is what’s wrong.

I can see two issues here:

It’s not really a storageless computer. It’s using EFI as storage to build the ramdisk.

What happens if you need to change things because of a change of cloud account, change of cloud API etc etc

Yes, that’s exactly the point. Combining data is something that must be considered. (And in some jurisdictions like the EU you even need to consider if it could be combined in future with other data)

Not sure I agree entirely. The actions I take are definitely data about me.

Also, in many jurisdictions data that could be combined (even in the future) with other data to identify you or something about you, is considered personal data.

For example, Device ID is AstridWipenaugh’s device and they use the app in the morning.

I think you’ve missed the point. It’s not the data they are collecting but the fact they say they don’t collect data.

They weren’t actually tiny, they were about a metre long. But they do seem out of proportion.

They were very muscular and ended in very sharp talons, so pretty deadly.

But that’s pretty much the standard answer to any suggestion for improvement.

I was trying to explain to an elderly friend that people don’t just phone other people now and certainly not at times they will be doing something.

She found it hard to accept that many people find it rude to be called unannounced.

As an example, at one time if someone was organising a social event (eg party) they would phone around to invite people.

But that’s incredibly rude you are imposing on someone and also asking them to decide or excuse themselves on the spot.

Is there any news on Sublinks?

Does anyone have any hints as to how to get Beeper Mini working with a UK SIM?

Whichever SIM I try, when it gets to the phone registration stage (sending an SMS to Apple) I get a message “ Something went wrong -please check your network settings or try again later”

Things I’ve done:

Checked network settings Tried again later Tried different SIMs with different numbers Cleared Cache and Storage. Uninstalled and reinstalled app Turned phone off and on. Tried a different phone.

Is it just buggy as hell rubbish?

I had an email yesterday telling me that the Apple One subscription was going up for the second time in twelve months.

It no longer represents good value for me and I can save nearly £100 a year by cancelling and subscribing to the important parts that I use most.

Apple are not alone in increasing prices (in a cost of living crisis) to the point they no longer represent fair value. What is it with companies that they lack basic business smarts?

I also have an account on another instance. The sole admin hasn’t been heard of for three weeks. There don’t seem to have been any mod actions for a month and the instance hasn’t been updated to the latest version.

At the moment I’m more concerned about the admin (I hope they are okay). But what would happen if they don’t show up? I guess eventually the instance would disappear without warning or be defederated if bad actors take over.

Is there anything built in to Lemmy that would allow a takeover if a big instance went under?
