And I got all excited to play this, just to find out it's only on Epic for PC. Ugh.

What platforms will The Expanse: A Telltale Series come to at launch on July 27? The Expanse: A Telltale Series is set to launch on Xbox One / X|S , Playstation 5 / Playstation 4, and PC (on PC, it is a limited timed exclusive for Epic Games Store).

And the wait begins.

What's annoying is the game devs went on Reddit to ask what everyone's preferred gaming platform was before making this game a 1 year epic exclusive.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Probably ultimately wasn't their decision to make.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

If it was the devs, that seems more like they were trying to gather data to give to the higher ups to sway in their preferred direction. I'm sure the devs would like their work to be published on arguably the biggest gaming marketplace opposed to the execs getting a fat bag of cash from Epic for exclusivity.

That just eleveates guilt for 🏴‍☠️, I was genuinely going to pay for it, but Epic paid for me to not have the opportunity on Steam.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yep, i would have paid full price, but I won't buy from epic, and i won't pay mor then 5$ for anything that was previously exclusive to this abomination.

Fuck 'em!

It definitely sucks when it's something you're excited for. I've started to mind less nowadays though, there are so many games to play and picking it up after a year is usually not a bad general rule anyway.

Sometimes it pays to be a patient gamer. :)

let's hope the 1 year exclusivity is from the release of the first episode rather than the release of the last one. To be fair, I don't hate the epic launcher and have bought a few games there, but being an epic exclusive reduces the possibility for the game becoming cheaper quickly and there's very few games I am willing to spend even 40 Euros for.

What's the issue people have with Epic Games Store?

The exclusivity-thing is a no-brainer for someone that needs to break into a market dominated by a behemoth like Valve. How would you suggest Epic Games Store grow the fastest with a big bag of Fortnite-money?

Sony plays this game the best and I don't see as many gamers complaining about their anti-competitive behaviour, despite being the biggest one...

Epic as a company is another thing completely though but is that why gamers hate on the Epic Store?

Sigh I really don't have time for more gaming but I guess I need to make an exception for this one... The books and TV series are fantastic and I want more on the same.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I binged the books not knowing that the series was done. I was so disappointed when I finished the last book. I didn't want to leave.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm sure the Germans have some enormous compound word for the loss you feel when you finish a great series of books or tv.

I went on a long search for anything that had some similarity to the series. To be honest, it's hard since "The Expanse" series is an interesting combination of a few different things that make it unique.

But, I did eventually find a few other series that had their own unique qualities that managed to leave me with a similar feeling when completed. Most recently, the Dead Empire's Fall Trilogy from Walter Jon Williams (and the second trilogy in the same universe). But, I was also really impressed with John Scalzi's Interdependency Trilogy as well. And lastly, the Murderbot Diaries from Marth Wells was a whole bucket of interesting twist on a scifi world that left a truly unique impression on me. Though, the last example is still not complete with a new book coming out this year or next year I think.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thank you for the recommendations. I just grabbed the first of Scalzi's books.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Awesome! I hope you enjoy it!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

If it helps it’s doing the episodic thing so only 2 hours or so every 2 weeks for 10 weeks

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Right. Now, please, an Expanse space sim where I can pilot the ships and engage in battles. Because that was the best part of the show.

Those streams of projectiles like deadly tentacles flailing around the ships are incredible. Would love a game that could replicate that.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Omg yes. I have no idea how it would work, I'm imagining turn based combat since it's ttrpg based, but i want it so badly.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No turn based. Full-on hardcore space sim with 100% realistic physics and weapons systems similar to Independence War, Hunternet and DCS. Or, put in another way—Orbiter with guns.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But... That sounds like I'd be bad at it and that makes me sad. :(

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

If you want kind-of turn based realistic tactical space combat sim, check out Children of a Dead Earth. It's the closest thing to The Expand space ship game.

I enjoyed what I played, and the choices felt like they could potentially be impactful in the future. Episode 1 is incredibly short, however. I explored a bunch, picked up most, if not all, the extra resources and it still clocked in at under an hour. Looking back, there were four main 'scenes' that actually contributed to any story.

Good start, but I really hope the future episodes are more substantial.

Man I thought telltale died. I must have gotten berenstein's gated again.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

It shut down, sold it's assets, and then the company that bought it all reopened Telltale and started fresh. Not sure what the culture there is now, but since no news is good news, I'll assume it's gotten a little better than before.
