Mountain feature wall in child's bedroom (lemmy.world)

My project is going slowly, but I finished building and painting the feature wall in my son's new bedroom. Now I just need to install and program the LED strip along the top!

My wife got the idea to do a geometric mountain feature wall from Pinterest. I am really happy with this outcome and feel I did a better job than the influencer DIYers who did similar projects that inspired this one. Giving the mountains a 36° slope to match the roof line was a pain in the butt, but the end effect was worth it.

Thanks to everyone here who helps with thoughts on patching wall cracks and LED lighting methods. I'll share photos of the full room once it is complete.

Edit to add: The wall is actually a mildly dark blue-green. Between bad natural light and my phone's camera's limitations, this is the best I can get for now. The mountains are not actually black.

Looks pretty cool, not gonna lie though, the stark black paint and odd unexpected angle (as I scroll the feed on my phone) gave me major House of Leaves vibes! I'd be haunted by that wall, haha

Hah! I love it. If it helps at all, the color fidelity in this photo isn't great. The mountains are actually a non-vibrant shade of blue-green that gets turned much darker by my phone's camera. The natural lighting today also doesn't help with it raining outside. We specifically chose the color of the White Mountains of New Hampshire through the haze of a warm summer day.

I have found photographing this project to be especially challenging. Between the changing light throughout the day and the limits of my phone camera, it is hard to get both accurate colors and a proper impression of the texture of the wall.

With all black paint, will you be doing a coat of chalkboard paint on top?

Be careful there and try the paint before. My friend says he never gets his fully clean again after the first use.

It's not black, but instead a mildly dark blue-green. The lighting is awful today, and my phone is struggling to pick up the actual color. I'll see if I can upload a photo that better grabs the color.

Edit: I can't get Boost for Lemmy to accept my image upload in the comments. I don't know why. Boo. Maybe I'll upload to another service later.

I will share more once the whole build is done. If you look back a month or so in this sub, you can see the notes page there I planned my layout for the mountains. I think the room will be finished in a week or so, and there will be plenty of pictures then.
