I use it daily, it's got a ton of features and it's customizamble. Hands down best FOSS podcast app

Probably, but I haven't tried any proprietary one, so I had to specify

I agree 100%. It's one of the first apps I download on a new phone and I've been using it for about a decade.

Great app that I recommend. I never listened to podcasts before I discovered the app, so I can't even compare it to others. It works.

I love AntennaPod! I've relied on it for what feels like a few years (has it even been around that long?) and can't recommend it enough. Just give it time to get used to!

Is it better than PocketCasts? I've used that for years, haven't seen a need to change but could be tempted.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It has near feature parity with Pocketcasts. I have a lifetime subscription to Pocketcasts premium, but with all the price increases, I expect that I'll be switched to monthly sometime soon, so I've been looking for alternatives.

I started with Audiobookshelf, but AntennaPod is much better for my use case. There are a few bugs, I'm still testing the automated features, and I have yet to test gpodder sync through NextCloud, but so far I'm liking AntennaPod a lot.

Thanks for replying :)

I wonder if there will ever be a sponsor block for either. That said, the skip ahead buttons work well.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

30s forward and 10s back works fantastic for that, so I'm not missing sponsorblock that much either.

I have issues with antenna pod. When I tap on a podcast, half the time I don't hear anything, and I need to tap on an older one, then back to the new one again. Which then marks the older one at being played..

On Android auto the play/pause screen sometimes disappears, and the only way to get it back is to use my phone to resume the podcast, which then makes it appear back on Android auto.

I hate these bugs so much. I am really tempted to go back to pocket casts

If you can come up with a way to reliably reproduce the bugs you're noticing, you can make an issue on github. The developers seem to be very responsive and they want to fix things like that.

I have been using AntennaPod for a long time! It works great for me.

Too bad, that the official gpodder.net server is 99% useless. Aside from that, the AntennaPod app is really great, I use that daily.

It has had quite a bit of downtime/undercapacity issues but for me it's has been working fine the last year at least.

I think some work was being done on rewriting the backend to make it more efficient but I don't know the exact state of that currently.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Had anyone here switched to this from pocket casts? Anything you miss, did you go back?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Yup. The UI isn't quite as nice, and I wish there was a cast button elsewhere than the Play screen.

Otherwise, I have this weird bug where a podcast will start streaming locally a few minutes after starting playback on a cast target. Cast target continues to play so idk what that's all about.

Love this app switched from Podcast addict and never looked back.

I wish it would autoplay either from the new episodes list, or next in podcast page, but aside from that I have been loving it.
