In this blog post I explore Reddit's downfall and my search for something to replace it. I'm finding no perfect solutions but lots of interesting pieces of a solution.

That's a great rundown, and fits well the context of this comm.

I'm glad to see people using RSS again. The protocol has been forgotten by many, but it fills well Reddit's niche as a link aggregator. With a difference - what you see isn't being filtered out by other users, this might be good or bad depending on you.

I do remember people from Mastodon posting in Lemmy, but I can't recall how.

The question will be is the communities heart really in it? Are we willing to walk away from reddit and adopt these other platforms.

I believe that, as long as the contributors move away, the others will follow fashion. The federation has a thousand annoying rough corners, but it'll improve over time, and the underlying idea is rock solid. While Reddit, well...

Thanks I appreciate the feedback. I did my best to make sure I was balanced and tried to solve any issues I ran into. I really hope as things mature things like federation and interoperability between platforms improve. I am happy to see the fediverse get some traction.

lemmy is pretty cool too. I've been here for 2 years. Haven't used it that much, because there isn't that much content on here compared to reddit. but as the people come here quickly, that should change.

Yeah I think it's already a lot better even in the short time I've been here. You can see the amount of bug reports have increased a lot so that means a lot more people are using the platform.
