Yes, you need to manualy create a .desktop file in the ~/.local/share/applications I usually just copy-paste an already existing desktop file and edit it with any text editor

Don't worry about it too much. .desktop
files being Linux shortcuts is something I'd only learned years after starting to use it myself. It's surprisingly a rarely-mentioned feature on many desktop environments.
Another easy way is to launch kmenuedit
to create the files with a GUI.
If you have Lutris, then you can add your games in it, and then add shortcuts using Lutris
