I believe in the US they are allowed to use minors for stings but with parents permission. Doesn't say anything about that in the article.

The 13-year-old went to police after the man she met on an app tried to blackmail her into having sex with him. Police instead sent her on a sting operation to catch the man, who had threatened to release her nude photos.

If you screw up at work, maybe you can feel a bit better knowing at least you're not these guys.
