AI is too competitive for anyone to make money at it. Last year OpenAI made a browswer to get ChatGPT traction, and Google "had to" do AI mode. "Making an extra $B is not cool, you know what is cool? $1T eyeball/query share". There's too much "hype metrics" focus to juice stock/IPO values, and AI bubble pop needs to shift from circular financing to outright cannibalizing each other.

Deepseek is an incredible lab, and Xiaomi espcially and several others from China, surprising. US models are good too, but the overspending has no competitive chance vs open models, or China's hardware advantages and progression.

Eh, I am afraid everything will just go to YouTube and Google platforms.

I bet Google will buy Discord too. Hell, maybe Reddit once it tanks?

…I am not smiling at any of this. The destruction of the internet will not be a relief, as Google ultimately owns it already.

Nah, I just let them burn their money for absolutely nothing while I ignore it. Eeeevery once in a while, when I'm having shit luck finding what I want, I might check the sources on the AI bullshit, but I never actually listen to the AI.

Hot take: this is their plan to choke out smaller publishers who can't afford to just eat these losses. Once there's no more real alternatives they'll start to squeeze

For that to work, they'd have to be a viable choice in the first place.

Maybe if it's ai mode could provide accurate information it would be better.

Oh no, if only someone would have know this would happen in advance, like, anyone at all, like literally any dumdum you'd ask, for example. Oh no...

This is almost correct. In reality, rich people inside Google got richer. That was their sole goal. That is all they wanted.

Because look, we all told everyone that the AI bubble was in fact a bubble, and that Google was destroying its own search engine, which of course would hurt them later. On the one hand, you could argue they didn't believe us. But I think they didn't hedge their bets because they didn't care either way.

Fuck the company's future if you can get rich now, am I right? Never underestimate human greed.

Bing Bing! Bing! This is the correct answer.

Everyone was hyping AI, the stock went up, they got richer. They push AI search to inflate the bubble. They will not lose a cent when it all collapses. They will buy more stock and get even richer eventually.

Always funny to see managers have the "fuck it" mindset, which they hate so much in their employees.

Except they are paid to do exactly that: care about the company and it's future.

they freaked out after they couldnt scrape more data from reddit, because they wernt producing anymore, because reddit is infested with AI BOTs, and regular spammers. actual users who generated content have long banned or lurking now.

Don't worry, Reddit has their top people on the job to fix it, and in a stroke of brilliance, they're going to *checks notes* ...requiring everyone to login even to view?

Yeah, this Ouroboros is about to choke to death on itself.

Google spent decades telling publishers to create quality content, then built a machine to read it aloud without sending anyone to the source. Now it's shocked that the machine makes less money. Congratulations: they've invented a search engine that eats both its suppliers and its own business model.

Here's the updated scoreboard of AI-pilled promises - and what became of them:

    1. AI is going to make cost big money for AI-first companies.
    2. AI is going to make employees more productive wade through tons of generated slop instead of doing actual work.
    3. AI is going to solve all of humanity's problems - cancer, global warming, all that jazz! exacerbate humanity's problems by gobbling up resources on an unprecedented scale.

I'm a big AI hater and just can't wait until this is all over. However, I've seen colleagues use the slop machine to just make shit they'd have skipped otherwise. Like using it to do TDD, provide the tests and then do the actual fun work - write proper good code.

But also if AI vanished tomorrow I'd be so happy and would not cry a single tear for it.

I'm not expecting AI to go away. I'm hoping the bubble pop will remove AI from a lot of markets that shouldn't be using it because it was shoehorned in so they could figure out uses for it. The test bench use makes sense to me. I can see how that could be beneficial to generate. In this case the people using those AI generated tests are still coding and their skills will remain sharp.

But it just doesn't work for a lot of stuff people are trying to use it for. Consumer tech is one of those things and I actively hate it.

Yeah for every 1 good use of ai that makes sense corpos are shoving it in 9 that don't make sense.

Ai can be useful and fine. But not so long as the corpos are shoving it into everything everywhere all of the time.

Word! LLMs can be a useful tool, but every tool has its purpose. A hammer is great for - well, hammering stuff. What corporate "leadership" has done - drunk on the koolaid given to them by hammer salesmen - was to mandate that everyone must do their work with a hammer now. And now they're bamboozled why so many people are getting hurt and inventory, somehow, always looks like it was smashed to bits. (Maybe we need to do just a smidge more hammering to get there?)

Turns out reducing peoples expose to their core advertisement business while burning millions of tokens to produce a summary, not the best business decision they have ever made. But what do you expect of MBA's that praise Jack Welch like a God.

They got what they deserved. Taking into consideration that Chinese AI companies are loosing heavily in the stock market - I am certain that it is time for the US as well. I bet that within two weeks from US elections AI companies will be at least 20-30% lower than today.
