Two Halloweens ago, a family dressed as the Addams family came to my porch and everyone took candy, even the adults dressed as uncle fester and Morticia. I was inspired. So last year, my parents dresses up as Wednesday and Enid, and my 4'10" mom put on a wolf mask to cover her face and my dad walked around holding her hand and she came back to my house with a full bag of candy.

Everyone in my neighborhood always has sooo much candy that they just want to give it away to anyone. The kids in my neighborhood go to the rich neighborhoods just a little farther south. Is 13 and 15 too old to trick or treat?

The day I am too old for free candy is the day I die.

I don't care who comes up. Kid, Teen, Adult, you get some fucking candy. You showed up, I'm out here, have a couple of pieces.

Teens get the shit end of the stick, always. There's no lack of activities for kids and tweens. Teens are usually left out of community things.

Build that bridge to the teens in the community; in a couple of years, you'll be dealing with them as beginner adults that'll start out better if you're that neighboor that gave them $0.30 of candy

I lived in SE Idaho and the people there were ruthless. Trick or treating was over by age 12, and people wouldn't give candy out to teenagers. Trick or treating ended by 7:00 and people didn't like you coming to their neighborhood.

Grownups get candy and a pamphlet on universal basic income.

Thank you. My kids are enormous beasts that look much older than they are.

One of my neighbors was giving out nips and scratch tickets for the grownups last Halloween.

He just got his 2-month chip...don't think he'll be doing that again this year.

One year, I think I was around 12, I told my family that I thought maybe I was too old to trick-or-treat so I would figure something else out. They were effusive about how wrong I was and unanimously told me absolutely not, I was still a kid and 100% I had to go trick-or-treating.

The next year I assumed I was still young enough, since they were so insistent the last time, so I told them I planned on going again. They all gave me worried looks and said I was clearly too old.

I don’t remember what age it was, but there is an exact age that people find acceptable, apparently. I’m tempted to go out now, many years later, just out of spite.

I have teens that don’t even dress up. I give em candy but I’m gonna complain that they’re not even trying.

Sure I’m giving out candy to be part of the community but my reward is seeing people in costumes. Don’t break the contract or I’m gonna pick “trick.”

Yeah unless you're here with a younger sibling if you're not dressed up you're getting a quick scoop of the candy nobody else seems to be taking. Like enjoy your Swedish fish, why are you here if the magic is gone?

Anyone who comes to my door gets candy but you don't get to both want to trick-or-treat and be too cool for trick-or-treating.

I never understood people who got bent out of shape about giving a 14 year old 9 cents worth of candy one day a year.

Are those 9 cents worth of candy in the room for us?

No for real, hasn't candy, like anything else, become expensive?

Yes, I was using a form of language known as "hyperbole" where you deliberately exaggerate to make a point.

However. A quick google shows me I can buy a box of 100 mini chocolate bars for $13 at Walmart, or roughly 13¢ per bar.

Would that be college age? I see groups of teens every year. 2 years ago one kid asked if he could have one of the burgers I was cooking.

As a kid who grew up tall (and therefore given weird like very early). 100%. These days, I don't even care if it's an adult trick or treating, and they're not wearing a costume. Let people have fun. Let people be kids.

My last year was in high school. We filled our buckets with candy that we purchased ourselves, and then ran around the neighborhood "restocking" all the houses after yelling "Trick-or-Treat!" We'd accept and immediately eat one piece of candy each from anyone who offered, and one of us would ask, "what do we say?" and we'd all shout "thaaank yoooooouuuuu!" with candy in our mouths.

I don't care if you're four, fourteen, or forty; you can have all the damn candy you want.

Same. Didn’t get to have trick or treaters growing up - poor and lived far back from the street in a sketchy neighborhood. This is my first year with a chance and I’ll be damned if anyone comes up to my front steps and leaves empty handed.

If you turn up at my house wearing anything approaching a costume and you say "trick or treat" you get trick or treat.

You show up in a costume at a reasonable hour fair go. When three highschoolers show up at 2145 out of costume asking if I have some candy you can fuck off

    It's me, I'm that kid.

I may also be older than the people handing out candy.

Plus there are lots of special needs teenagers out there who really don't want to explain their diagnosis while dressed up as Dracula in front of their friends ...

For a couple years this really fat kid would show up and steal all the candy from the bowl. He was wearing a towel as a cape one year lol
