Iβm a break hopper. If I like a distro. Iβll use it. Months and sometimes years. Then, if thereβs some kind of breakage and I canβt figure it out and I decide to do a fresh install, Iβm like βwhy not try something newβ

Love this song, "Play me online. Well, you know that I'll beat you. If I ever meet you I'll control-alt-delete you" is gold.
I feel the line "While your computer's crashing, mine's multitasking. It does all my work without me even asking'" is very relevant today.
"I got me a hundred gigabytes of RAM"
Even almost 30 years later it's still a flex π
"Your Windows boots up in what, a day and a half"
Somehow still relevant too.
And on CachyOS I often do "upgrade my system at least twice a day, I'm strictly plug and play"
They say its all about distro hoppin baby
There so many options it is gettin crazy
Iβm ferrin and carryin my files from SSD
Gonna need that when I reformat my PC
Its gettin hard in this economy
to find all the right parts at an honest fee
And the only option left that I can see
switching to an OS that will work for me
Ubuntu I adore ya
But this week is Fedora
Linux Mint got me through March
By the way I used Arch
Every day the list grows
an endless number of brand new distros
One thing every homie knows
we all hate on windows
I'm just gonna stick with Fedora cause I'm white and nerdy.
Hit install and never stop
I'll tell you how I distrohop
There's no flavor I'd say no to
'cept that faschy one (you know who)
got a hundred boxes runnin'
and a vendor ain't locked one in
Drop a new one and I'm on it
jumping ships like the bubonic
keeping ancient silicon churning
endless new OS smell burning
I'll be jumping 'til I drop
to the beat of the endless distrohop
I use Debian since the early 2000s. Never had a reason to even think about changing the distro.
It's all about the pentium's baby.
I always end up back at Arch, its the old reliable. Although I do have one system running just Nix these days as well.
Arch is the "old reliable?" π₯²
it's what they have the most experience re-installing.
Distrohopping is just OS tourism.
You gotta live the ecosystem. Vote in their elections. Contribute to their package managers. Then you can hop if its not for you.
ugh that's totally me. I've literally tried everything, even all the BSDs, and there are many that I like.
I don't know I just find it fun to install a linux distro or BSD and set it up, see what will work, what doesn't, etc.
The beauty of it is now I can install anything with ease and i'm familiar with pretty much every package manager out there. Favourite install: Gentoo. Least favourite: Slackware.
what I changed more were DEs and WMs. I could never find the right one that I absolutely loved for years. Finally I just ended up building my own and put in all the stuff I wanted.
Hey fella, I bet youβre still living in your parents cellar, downloading picture of Sarah Michelle Gellar
And posting βme tooβ like some braindead AOL-er I should do the world and cap you like Old Yeller
Youβre just about as useless as JPEGs to Helen Keller
Weird Al did not need to make these lyrics slap so hard but Iβm so glad he did.
Part of me is like "just run a VM" other part of me is like "hardware comparability is a major part of choosing an OS".
Also, just friggin at least run a fedora VM and shove every DE in it until you figure out what you like. Maybe you actually just want to try a different DE.
Nixos is where it's at
suggestions for better rhythm:
I distro-hopped every Linux system,
gave some props, the rest I dissed 'em.
You had your OS more than a week?
Pave that shit, man, it's antique!
Tell Weird Al, he wrote it
I've been distro shopping since the late 90s. Think I've finally settled: Bazzite (+distrobox) and CachyOS. π€
I jumped from Windows 10 straight to CachyOS (which you should've mentioned is Arch btw). Haven't looked back since.
I've been meaning to switch and was gonna do it when I get a new computer (any decade now..). Funnily enough it was my frustrations with getting Docker running that led me to pull the trigger.
Arch purists might get offended, since I didn't build it from scratch π
I hopped mainly among a few. Then it was Debian for a long time. Then hopped again for no particular reason. My Mint kernel panicked once a few weeks ago, so I might hop again.
