Advances in robotic laser eye surgery will improve the sight of millions. Then AI will take over and blind us all. So it's a mixed bag.

An optimist is an optometrist who's figured out how to see a better future

Myopia management methods will help prevent the next generation of myopes from having such severe axial elongation.

I asked my optometrist friend and they said there was a thing going on about eye drops that can temporarily fix near vision, which is apparently different than nearsightedness. That would be pretty neat!

As my near vision has been downgrading over the last 1-2 years (Getting old), I had a quick look about these eye-drops which aren't cleared in EU yet. To my understanding they work by contracting the pupil (Giving a similar effect as squinting which is also a trick I discovered recently), the main drawback are night/dark vision due to the contracted pupil, and a common side effect are red/dry eye. Unfortunately they don't restore near vision but offer an extra way to manage-it.

Will I try them ? Most likely yes, but I'm affraid that by the time they're cleared in EU, my near vision will have passed the point where the drops help. On the other hand, progressive glasses have made huge progress, and even cheap affordable ones give back a good near-vision without impacting distance. And I would recommend someone to take the plunge asap, cheap OTC readers just sucks (and get a full eye-test, you may end-up with a slight distance correction too).

(EDIT) I have no idea how these drops would work on a near-sighted person. My limited understanding of optic make me thing it may work for light myopia. but the side effect may-means that they're not made for every-day, but for moment where you need both near and distance vision together and don't have progressive glasses yet

    Optometrists

Well, I suppose there have been a lot of advances made when it comes to eyewear and contacts...

Well for starters at my shop we’re currently running a BOGO special on select designer frames! And anyone who brings in a screenshot of this post will also get 15% off a Transitions™ lens treatment and our receptionist Carrie will let you stare at her boobs while she fits your frames.

With incentives like that, the future has never looked brighter!

I did have the same misreading. And I should in fact visit an optometrist...

It's the nearing end of the calendar year, and business will be good.

People in the US have to spend their Health Savings Accounts (HSA) before they lose the funds to... where exactly do the unused funds go?

Well, optometrists have rather strong financial incentives to oppose things that might permanently fix the issues people keep paying them to address.

From what I know from my optometrist partner, eyes are kind of dumb and permanent fixes aren’t super likely in the near or medium future. They don’t even really have impermanent fixes that can restore you to 100%, everything is a trade off. It would be great if optometry and dentistry were treated as normal healthcare and not weirdly outside many universal health care systems tho

You just have to focus and you can achieve anything.

I don't know about optometrists, but I would get advice from the historians. Only they know how would a Cathar act.
