Anyone familiar with evangelicals has known this for ten years.

Yeah, in America evangelicals have rigid views on things like abortion and homosexuality. At the same time they were the backbone of homeless shelters and refugee ministries. The Southern Baptist Convention ran the second largest disaster response organization in the United States. The guys caught up in Christian nationalism were not around for any of that. If they went to church at all it was to meet chicks.

There is no revival of Christianity in America or the West generally. It was already in decline and had been for a generation or more when Trump stepped out in 2015. Whatever credibility evangelicals had earned from actually helping people has been vaporized. They’re tied to him now in the public opinion because a lot of them voted for him.

A few evangelical leaders did try to speak out but were quickly pushed aside.

Religion is never the reason, it's the excuse

Especially when the main character of the fictional book they base their morals on is all like "being nice to other people is what this religion is about".

Nah, he came bearing a sword and spent a shitload of time fantasizing about punishing people too.

The Bible is a Hall of Mirrors, you can get whatever you want out of it by cherry picking.

"Jesus was actually a really nice chill dude" is also cherry picked.

Feel like the only time he got mad was at the money changers? I certainly don't remember a sword...

Matthew 10:34, New International Version β€œDo not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

    He says so Himself.

If you take a look at the political situation today, would you say "I have come to bring peace"?

Is that not an enlightened centrist take that gets duly criticized?

But when Jesus basically says "No, fuck that. No compromises with these stale old fascists," then suddenly all the keyboard warriors on the left act all shocked because he said "sword."

    Kinda silly, don't you think?

Wow. Next, you're going to tell me that evangelical Christians don't follow the teachings of Christ.

You know maybe nobody should refer to them as Christians.

If you don’t follow the teachings of Christ how can you be a Christian?

I propose from now on we call them Evangelical Lunatics.

Mark me shocked. Well, not too shocked.

Of course they're a bunch of lying fucktards. They want power over other people because they're failures in life (either by their own efforts and/or society failing us all). They don't care what lies they tell to get it.

Well racism is wrong and can be prosecuted but religion is a protected right. Not hard to understand why white racists would pivot to Christian as their cornerstone. I think all strife in the world is due to amassing power and wealth and a main tool to attain that is religion. So while I don't support White Christian Nationalism, I do recognize that religious immigration can be another method of 'conquering' an area. It's unfortunate that by trying to protect a groups religious ideals, such as head coverings for Muslim women in a western country, then makes the non Muslim women already living there a target by male Muslim fanatics.

then makes the non Muslim women already living there a target by male Muslim fanatics.

This is complete non-sense. The only women really affected by this are second generation immigrant ones that grew up in western society but whom their families do not want to drop the traditional values they brought with them.

I have a good friend who's a strong christian and I find it hard sometimes to reconcile what I perceive to be his zealous evangelical crowd with his tame and good-natured demeanor.

It's somewhat of a relief to hear that it's not him and his community spreading this hatred, but village idiots on mass hiding behind religion
