I worry every day about what LLMs are doing to people's brains.
It's why I won't touch the damn things. I like my ability to think.

Frontier AI companies have acknowledged how offloading tasks to chatbots can reduce one’s baseline understanding and mastery of a subject. Instead of defaulting to quick answers, AI responses could default to being more instructive, like a tutor, Christian said.
Sure, but the whole reason AI responses are designed to offload instead of instruct is because they want us dependent.
Or, there is an easier explanation:
Research shows that it takes an average of 23 minutes and 15 seconds to regain focus after an interruption.

I don’t really doubt it, but I’m also old enough to remember them saying the same thing about TV, video games, and the Internet.
I remember them saying it would ruin attention spans. They were correct, too. Mine is fucking shot.
My partner scrolls TikTok while watching TV.
It's a bit of a mixed blessing that the Internet is slowly dying; there's less to look at anywhere so I pick up a book every once in a while now instead.
Tbh tech illiteracy also goes in a similar direction.
Or short form content.
“10 minutes relying on an AI tool”
Very important distinction missing from the headline.
Not just using llm models, AI does not exist by the way, even just using maps on the phone to navigate, I might not find my way back, where if I do it the old fashioned way I can.
AI does not exist by the way
Dumb argument for lame people who want to argue (incorrectly I may add) about definitions all day
More if it give the answer of the prompt "remember what another user said 6 month ago"
