Frontier AI companies have acknowledged how offloading tasks to chatbots can reduce one’s baseline understanding and mastery of a subject. Instead of defaulting to quick answers, AI responses could default to being more instructive, like a tutor, Christian said.

Sure, but the whole reason AI responses are designed to offload instead of instruct is because they want us dependent.

  • Yeah it's all by design. I hate this framing around anything critical where we're expected you tie ourselves into knots to protect the status quo. "What if we made it instructive" that will still cause problems and like that would ever happen in the first place.
