All religions are extremists organizations and mafia groups. Good start, now ban crosses and underaged from preaches.
Hijabs are one thing, but I'm all for banning burquas. Nobody should be forced to spend their life in a full-body bag
Useless policy that will solve no problems and will drive division, but you get what you vote for
The implications of taking the thought process this has begun in Italy and drawing it step by modest step out to its natural conclusion are terrifying.
Once you agree the moderate, reasonable position is to allow othered groups but only up to a certain ratio you have already lost the war to defend human rights at its most essential level.
Nobody can say for sure what it really means to be Italian, I mean gosh the idea of obsessing over nationalism and heritage is always weird but I mean Italy? come on????? Italy is defined by the central role its people have played in European history despite the big old boot not really having a cohesive "national" identity for most of that time.... and with that in context Italians want to portray Italy as a gatekeeping border between an in and out group??
There is no quintessential Italianness that must be preserved, only a nation of individuals who will be denied or not denied participation in culture and life. There is no castle to defend and only diversity and vibrancy to be lost.
To beat a dead horse here, it is also worth pointing out how important maritime power, trade and interaction have been for Italy and that no great maritime power of the world has ever prospered from rejecting an engagement with the other, why have ships and live by the sea on a great long peninsula in the heart of the mediterranean if that is what you desire?
Once you agree the moderate, reasonable position is to allow othered groups but only up to a certain ratio you have already lost the war to defend human rights at its most essential level.
Yes, we all see this situation in other countries where wearing burqas have been banned for a long time, and not just in schools but for the entire population in all public spaces; and where, in addition, more severe human rights violation take place.
I doubt any of that will held up constitutionally or will be feasible to implement. It just sounds like posturing in view of the elections next year
Austria also banned burqas for students under the age of 14 starting this school year as I read recently in a report. We must take care to not end up like in other regions in the world. In China's Xinjiang region, for example, burqas are outright banned not only in schools but for everyone.
@tardigrade@scribe.disroot.org almost every one of your comments and posts directs everything back to China Bad and it is so onenote and monotone I have a hard time believing you are a human being even though you evidently are.
Please stop using everything you read and interact with as a platform to push your opinions on China, it is ineffective, annoying and if you actually really are worried you need to realize your strategy of promoting your viewpoint is completely backfiring.
