Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will depart for New York on Tuesday to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the chief executive’s office announces.

The director general of public relations at the president’s Office, Habibollah Abbasi, made the announcement on Monday.

The president is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Wednesday, Abbasi said, adding that during the visit, he will also meet and hold talks with some heads of state and officials from countries participating in the assembly.

According to the official, the president’s schedule in New York also includes a meeting with prominent Iranians residing in the United States, as well as discussions with American intellectuals and think tanks.

A high-ranking Iranian delegation, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, will accompany President Pezeshkian.

Abbasi, meanwhile, described US refusal to issue visas to some members of the delegation, including members of the president’s media team, as “an unprecedented hostile move by the US administration.”

The 81st General Assembly session is to begin on Tuesday at the UN headquarters in New York under the general theme of restoration of trust among nations.

President Pezeshkian’s visit comes nearly eight months following the launch of the latest round of the United States' and the Israeli regime’s unprovoked aggression against the Islamic Republic.

US President Donald Trump announced a unilateral ceasefire on April 7 amid consistent Iranian retaliation, but American violations have persisted, including through Washington’s keeping up an illegal naval blockade of Iranian ports and vessels and carrying out intermittent attacks on Iranian targets.

Earlier this week, President Pezeshkian said Iran was ready to resolve differences with its neighbors through dialogue and mutual respect, while denouncing Washington and Tel Aviv for seeking to sustain tensions in the region.

I'm a Pez-head, irrationally and inexplicably. Time to educate you haters. He's doing this to get kidnapped on purpose. He's going to get dragged off the UN podium in cuffs by a multiracial group of ICE agents who will each call him a different, incorrect slur. As he does, he'll say something cool and badass like "look at the violence inherent in the system!" The UN's illusion of legitimacy will face its greatest ever internal crisis. It will justify a massive military escalation from Iranian hardliners AND radicalize the libs, creating a powerful new intensification of revolutionary unity across Iran. In prison, Pezeshkian will bunk with Maduro. He'll become a 21st Century Socialist But Islamic, return to power next year when the US collapses, and save the world.

Y'all can keep your eyes closed if it's easier for you to believe in the White Empire that way.

I wish I could go back in time and tell my childhood conservative self that one day we will be rooting for the radical wing of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Then why even bother going? picard Clearly, the US regime has shown (repeatedly) to be a hostile rabid dog and unserious negotiators. These reformists truly are something.

Yeah the belief and trust in the UN is still deeply rooted in a lot of people (from state leaders down to the regular person). Don't know what it would take to shake that trust. A genocide apparently isn't enough.

The sad truth is most of this blinkered thinking is born out of Hollywood and university schooling, these people are ideologically stuck in a imaginary that could only be socially sustained for a brief period in the immediate aftermath of the fall of the Soviet Union. For them fascism, class, imperialism and white supremacy simply don't exist, instead the admirable Anglo Saxons are just confused perfect Miltonian Randian optimizing neoliberals who simply need to be slowly convinced that Iranian reformists are Hamiltonian neoclasscial enjoyers JUST LIKE THEM and one beautiful day Iran will achieve it's destiny of......becoming America's greatest trading partner

The social delusion that grips people like Pezeshkian and his urban upper class Iranian ilk are difficult even for westerners to comprehend, he truly believes in the myths of the west but without the obvious cynicism most reactionary westerners impart to those myths

I mean he's going to just be arrested right? I guess that's one way to end the war. Trump can just say they arrested the president so they won and he can save face that way

Nah they wouldn’t just arrest and kidnap the head of state of another country, that would violate international law which the USA is very serious about! Anyway I wonder how Maduro is doing these days.

Pezeshkian has to be operating under the assumption that the US could likely kidnap, incarcerate, or even kill him and/or members of his team.

We have already seen their leadership sacrifice themselves and their own family members, as individuals, to unify their people and organizations behind their political projects and how little impact it had, materially, on their ability to resist the US.

These are people who understand the power and limitations of Great Man theory and legacy in a way western leaders do not.

This is the iranian resistance of western hegemony daring the US Imperial Apparatus to publicly debase itself and only putting at risk, what, a few dozen people, mostly politicans and handpicked diplomatic corps personnel?

That's peanuts compared to the value of what might be built in terms of legimitizing an anti-western/anti-US coalition of nations.

Looks like oil is below $100 again! You guys do know that Pezeshkian is part of the reformist camp right? They are always open to negotiating with Amerikkka. The markets are thinking the exact opposite of a Maduro style kidnapping, they think Pezeshkian is there to say a few mean words at the US and Israel and then proceed to negotiate.

edit: Aragchi met with Witkoff and Kushner, more negotiations, probably another "ceasefire" to ease the markets and help Trump with the midterms. Everyone is expecting Trump to start bombing Iran again after the midterms. I am having a difficult time understanding Iran's strategy.
