What's up with Americans thinking that everyone on Earth wants to move there and be a citizen? I hear this constantly from US boomers and it genuinely baffles me because it's just so incorrect.

One of the only things where you'll hear someone confidently state this in public and then like 1/3 of the strangers within earshot will pull a face like "the fuck?"

Constant bombardment about an immigration "crisis" plus selection bias. The only foreigners these people interact with are people who did want to come to the US.

Reminds me of my buddy who said his Venezuelan neighbor was happy they kidnapped Maduro. Like, yeah, dude, there's a reason they left. You're not gonna find and Chinese-Americans who like Xi Jinping either.

Decades of American Dream, Shining City On The Hill, Land Of Opportunity type propaganda. Plus the fact that you did/do have plenty of people trying to immigrate and seek a better life in america (because america/it's proxies/other imperial states wrecked their home country but they don't focus on that)

Plus that kind of boomer has rarely travelled outside their comfort zone or met people from different walks of life so they can't comprehend why people wouldn't want a 40 year mortgage on a suburban home, 2.5 kids, a lawn, suv, 2 hour daily commute, and zero community

My parents have fully internalized this sort of propaganda and it was always so frustrating as a kid to bring like a whole ass PowerPoint of facts with citations to try and correct the buckwild stuff they think and it was always like a brick wall.

American Exceptionalism might be the most successful propaganda project of all time. So many people (not just Americans either) have bought in completely to the idea that America is the Best Country In The World™ and refuse to budge despite the mountains of evidence to the contrary.

The Newsroom is Libslop but that monologue on "how is america the greatest country in the world" hit the nail on the fucking head and that was almost 20 years ago. America has never been the greatest yet legions of people have the unshakable faith that there's no place better in the world

  • Also because living in the US as a migrant non citizen in any kind of longer term situation is a hell of bureaucracy and precarity. It used to be if you became a citizen you would at least not feel like you were gonna get kicked out of the country for no reason.

potato potay-to here and there - KKKlanada's got its own problems, but it won't be solve it to annex it as Amrikkka

Absolutely, both suck for different (but often similar) reasons, kkklanada just has better healthcare (for now...), less gun violence, and better PR on the world stage.

I agree that any true change has to come from within, but as this trump presidency has shown the average klanadian can't help but fall in lockstep behind america when it comes to international politics. Sure there's the trade war but I've yet to hear any kkklanadian leader actually criticize amerikkka enabling Israel's genocide or their attack on Iran

Yeah, that's the shitty part with them

even the changes they make - like regarding becoming associate partner with Europe - are more or less trying to maintain western status quo while trying to not directly look like they're dependent on the States.

so judging by that, I'm not holding my breath to see the fruits of them re-establish ties with China or India, for as soon as a Democrat is back in office, it'll be guaranteed they will revert from US skeptics to otherwise US-lite.

    :yea:

I've still been enjoying the anti-american sentiment even though I know it's really thinly-vieled anti-trumpism that will be gone the second a dem takes office that doesn't threaten to annex everyone around him. You rarely see random people criticizing anything else about American foreign policy, it's only the threats of annexing Canada that most people give a shit about.

If I was forced to choose between which shithole I would live in, burgerland or canada I'd pick klanada.

Same, kkklanada has a whole host of problems being a white-supremacist settler state but as the thought-terminating cliche goes: "at least it isn't america"

It's so goddamn frustrating, it feels like it's impossible to argue for improvements here when people just shrug and say "hey at least we aren't the states, that's good enough eh?"

Never mind that the vassal states are 10 years behind the US at best - in terms of fascist progression

In some way klanada might be ahead of the fascist game, the parliament did have a standing ovation for that waffen ss shithead (there's no fucking way I believe a room full of ostensibly educated people heard "fought against the Soviet union in ww2" and didn't at least pause and think "hmm weren't we allied with the ussr in ww2? Who were we fighting again?") and there's multiple monuments to various waffen ss members/units and Nazi collaborators that are still around
