I’m tired of people upgrading to premium to get videos to play while their phone is locked because you can do it with the free version. Here is how:

  1. Make sure your phone is in portrait orientation with the YouTube video open and playing

  2. Swipe up to your home screen so the video plays in the MiniPlayer

  3. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open Notification Center

  4. Unpause the video within Notification Center

  5. You can now lock your phone and the video will continue to play.

Your welcome P.S. this process seems long at first but becomes muscle memory in a day or two.

When I have a video playing in portrait and swipe to Home Screen there is no mini-player. Only with videos in the browser.

I'm reporting this to Google so they patch it

Can you make a video tutorial?

It works well with google chrome without any issues. Simply lock your screen and hit play. As long as they fix (ruin) it.
