There was a term "red republicans" around the time of the civil war because a lot of socialist and immigrants (48ers) were active republicans and fought for the north in the civil war. Tankies have always been right, often too early.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radical_Republicans

Radicals demanded the uncompensated abolition of slavery, while Lincoln wished instead to emulate the British Empire's abolition of slavery by financially compensating former slave owners who had remained loyal to the Union.

Literally to the left of Lincoln. Liberals taking the idealist vibes understanding of history are always so pissed when the materialist analysis shows their positions to be obviously deplorable.

ITT: It’s better if USA balkanized

No, broooo, trust me broooo, the nondemocracies that rival the world’s biggest democracy would never try to dishonestly influence voters, trust me brooooooooooo

    the world’s biggest democracy

madeline-deadpan the western chauvinism never ceases to amaze me

never mind smugging in that 'democracy' is when there's a plutocratic bourgeois dictatorship. taking their definition at face value, the US is still smaller than india.

August Willich emigrated to the US for the purpose of fighting the confederates. He had previously given up his noble title, fought in the 1848 revolution and challenged Marx to a duel for being a fucking lib. He left the Union army after the New York Times called him Dutch, after which he briefly returned to Europe to finally read Hegel at the age of 60.

The first tankie, the first guy to call all other communists than himself a lib, fought against slavery.

I heard he was forced to leave Germany because he killed one of Marx's acolytes in a duel that Marx declined.

You're mixing two things together i think. After Marx refused Willich's challenge, an associate of Marx (Schramm) challenged Willich to a duel to defend Marx's honour. However duels were illegal in England, so they went to Belgium to actually fight the duel. Willich shot Schramm in the head, but he survived.

Wilich emigrated to the US a couple years later

I mean part of me giggled and said "lmao get fucked fighting yourself, America" so they have about 1% of a point.

But that fundamentally misunderstands history to compare civil war America and modern America.

I think the thing that is most mind melting is that so many world comments start to feel like satire. Like you can't be serious right?

  • Liberals should love the confederacy for it's essential role in the mythology of america. Judas after all played an essential role in the remission of sin
