    That's funny I knew a band called Interrobang once. Anyway weird rabbit hole you just sent me down, I was looking for old videos of that band and just found out one of the old chumbawamba members formed a new band called Interrobang when Chumbawamba ended, the project looks kinda dead but they released this thing 2 weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vE-SS9gEuk

    i wonder if its actually a good idea to hydrate the middle of australia, wouldnt that wreck the ecosystem or something? yea lots of land for farms but do we really need more farms or do we just need to distribute the food better

    It wouldn't be, the Australian deserts are actually super interesting and biodiverse but hydrating the desert has been a colonial desire/obsession in Australia for a long time. Still fun to see a Ghanian propose ideas on how it could be done though. I mostly found the humor in his use of patriot missiles as cost representation.

    Edit: what is it with colonizers and "making deserts bloom" anyway?

    To be fair to desert bloomers, deserts tend to spread and are very hostile to human life and consequently human activity in said desert.

    Real Desert Bloomers know your goal is actually to contain the desert's spread and establish healthy buffer ecosystems between the desert and the not-desert.

    You gotta put bowling alley bumpers up around the desert or the whole thing will slowly march away into the ocean.

    the centre floods on occasion, but to permanently hydrate the interior would likely irrevocably fuck up huge amounts of the country.

    not to mention that Lake Eyre and all the other lakes in north SA/west QLD are salt lakes that only fill on very long cycles in specific conditions, so just pumping water into them year round is probably gonna start a Salton Sea situation sooner rather than later. but following that, the flow on effects to climate cycles from rehydrating the Simpson desert could be really fucked (because it would be super unpredictable)

    i more meant it in a "this will kill every fish and bird within 200km" kinda way, but fuck it we ball

    on the upside, flooding this specific part of the interior will basically delete 80% of the land that cappie cattle stations own (you know, the ones that are bigger than euorpean nations), so maybe this counts as land reform
