Hi there

I've been experimenting with some Netgear PLW1000 adapters to try and extend the internet connection in my house. Here's what's happening:

  • Without any adapters, the WiFi speed is 120-150 Mbps when sitting by the main router
  • When moving away from the router, the speed drops drastically (our walls are 9" solid brick)
  • When I connect a couple of adapters, the speed I get from each adapter is around 50 Mbps. Enough to take a meeting from another room, which is fine.
  • However, if I go and sit by the main router, the WiFi speed is terrible - around 15 Mbps.

In my simplistic view, it almost seems as though the adapters are drawing on the main WiFi even when nothing is connected to them. Could this be the case?

My router (Virgin Media in the UK) has a "Modem mode" - would it be worth trying that?

Any thoughts appreciated!
