The goal is to have THE FREEDOM to sell you bad food without THE MAN telling those poor innocent businesses to toss it out or shut down.

A healthy, broadly educated population, which feels safe and secure, is incompatible with, and toxic to, conservative and authoritarian ideologies.

They need you to be sick, stupid, and scared.

My sister in law died this morning from a bad listeria infection.

While the source hasn't been identified, I have little doubt it can be traced to the current administrations lackluster food safety policies.

Her two sons will grow up without a mother because of these fascist pricks lust for wealth and power. It won't be okay until they're all gone.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear that. As a non-American, I didn't realize the food safety situation was this dire. What an unnecessary, pointless death. How many more until the people finally turn on the government? Food is about as non-partisan or bi-partisan as you can get.

It's already starting to happen. Avowed socialists winning special elections in formerly lopsided Trump districts, etc. About fucking time.

food is highly partisan; take non pasturised milk, should it be able to be sold as food?

It shouldn't be though. It really really really should not be a partisan issue or even an issue at all to think people deserve access to healthy and safe food.

sure, but should people not also have the right to unhealthy food should sweets be allowed, whatabout alcohol? and this is even ignoring the issue of what animals should be able to be eaten.

The right to unhealthy food and choosing to slowly die of poor diet and lack of exercise - yeah that's fine, freedom and so forth. I'm all for letting people imbibe whatever drugs they want, including alcohol, as long as they're being responsible about it. You wanna grab some heroin and shoot up and pass out on your couch after a hard day at work. Go for it. Idgaf.

That, however, is very different than food being literally poisonous in a way that will acutely affect someone. Either through actual poisons or by being full of deadly and dangerous bacteria that will kill you.

That is unacceptable. It's not part of some slippery slope of limiting personal choice; it's a baseline part of a healthy and happy society we should all be striving to create.

Personally, I would also advocate for a gigantic sugar tax on all levels of production, refinement and sale. Starting at the crops and through to the sodas. Additionally, I would create a percentage based tax on manufacturers of processed foods based on a "healthiness index.". Healthy food you're paying no tax at all. Twinkies - yeah that's getting taxed the most. I do think there's a place for the state to intervene in ways to push the food supply towards being healthier and one of those is making foods full of sugar and trans fats expensive.

People should 100% be able to afford a treat, that's a whole other socioeconomic argument, but it's far too convenient and easy to get food bad for you as your main source of daily calories.

Anyways that's a far ways off from the original point which is that when you buy food at the store it should not contain poison or deadly bacteria.

Don't you worry about it. Soon there will be no more recalls, just mysterious diseases that unfortunately nobody could have prevented.

Conservatives tend to die first in harsh times, because they don't know how to take care of their health, funny how that works.

What most people don't realize is that MAHA and MAGA aren't political slogans indicating their goals. They are actually telling us what to do: "Make America Great/Healthy Again, because we're certainly not going to do it."

Conservatives are incapable of good government. They don't believe in it. They don't understand it. They're shitty people.

What they say and what they do is two seperate things.

STOP listening to them and START watching what they are doing.

And then, vote according to what you saw.
