eh, i think lanthimos' films are usually shallow in terms of meaning. sure, there are themes that are explored but it never gets very deep. he literally said in response to questions as to why he made certain choices: "because i thought it was funny". and i tend to believe him. i think he mostly just makes stuff for the fun of it and without much deliberation on what it might mean. and i like that.

now i am a fan of his stuff, bugonia however i did find to be a bit underwhelming. i enjoyed "kinds of kindness" a lot more.

Curious why you think the ending reduces the rest of the social commentary?

The violence felt too much for me. Acting was amazing but felt meh story wise. Even with great performances I never really cared for any of the characters.

It’s just a piece of art. It has provoked a reaction from you and in doing that has completed it’s job. Whether it resonates positively or negatively with you is moot.

I loved it. The ending made me want to watch it again.

To me the ending elevated it from a wacky dramedy to a direct indictment of the inhumane ruling class. I loved it.

Totally not my typical type of movie. I watched it because the cover art made me curious. I get what he was doing, but it definitely didn’t land with me. I just kept asking “why” to myself through the whole film and never got into it.

Honestly felt the same about Poor Things from the same director. He’s got his thing and it’s not for me.

I just watched Marty Supreme and was similarly disenfranchised by a very hyped movie.

Eh, I liked it.
